For some reason or another, Honda saw fit to make two different key styles for the Valkyrie.  If your ignition key will insert into the tumbler and just doesn't turn the lock, a competent locksmith can match the tumbler to your key.  If your ignition key will not insert into the trunk's tumbler, then you will have to use two keys or find another lock that your ignition key will fit into so a locksmith can match it with your ignition key.  I am not positive, but I think that the locks in trunks are the same as those in the saddlebags.  Surely someone will have a busted up saddlebag with the correct lock in it.  Sorry, but I do not know which model or year that Honda changed the key styles.  Maybe someone will chime in with that info...JTL

I bought a IS trunk for my 98 STD. I removed the trunk and helmet locks off the trunk. Took them to a local lock smith along with my ORG key for my bike. He called in an hour and they were done. All locks now work off the same key. Might depend on the lock smith you go to. This one is the best in the area. Taking the lock out of the trunk isn't a fun job. I was painting mine so it had to come apart.

If it is the different key style  as suggested then its another matter.

I'm converting my STD to an IS. I found out later the IS IGN switch has an ACC position. I ended up buying the entire IS lock set.

I'll try another locksmith before I put it back together, but I think Pharmboy had it right as my key is cut backward to the lock cyl and will not go in. If any one had a cyl for a d22 key or probably 99 or older I think my problem would be solved....I may have to live with the two key thing, I just don't like it.  guess I'm just too picky...thx cmc

Check with Pinwall, they have lock sets posted on e-bay all the time. Good luck.

I believe there are two different key blanks used on Valks.  Ask your dealer to order a lock cylinder compatable with your key, and have a locksmith set it to the key.  That's what I did.........

Here ya go this explains the key issue I have run into this before with Magnas.   Also this is a one sided key so only one side of the key does the unlocking. So if you have 2 different patterens say one for the trunk and one for the ign you can cut one on each edge from my understanding!!!

I have an IS too a 99 and yes I have a two sided key also but what I was trying to point out is that the tumblers only engage one side of your key IIRC so yes there are 2 sides to the key but you will notice that they are both the same .

Bill, thats the way it works on all I/S Valks; but if you damage your trunk and get a replacement from an 02, the key and tumbler are a different design, so your 99 key can't work. I can't believe Honda won't sell just the trunk lock, not the whole set.
