i have a friend that's dash has went blank but the fuel gauge still works is there a common issue these face ? before i tare the thing apart ?

Battery condition can negatively affect the different electrical systems.

Make sure the battery is up to snuff!

IF  the hand controller got wet, that is a common result. Let it dry out in the sun and it should start back up.
