Idle Set Screw
«

I know little about working on this beautiful piece of machinery, but I am learning. Well I was attempting to adjust my idle the other day, and the idle set screw popped out. I was out at the time, but had my Clymer manual on me. I discovered rather quickly that the manual does not have an entry in the index for idle set screw. I was looking for a picture or diagram to show me where it goes back in exactly. I Know it has to be between the front and middle cylinders on the right hand side, but getting down there with a flashlight I could not see it to save my life. Anyone got any suggestions or links?

You can see it much easier if you remove the gas tank and air box.

Does this help? Do Not remove the tank or air box remove the chrome covers for the linkage these pics were taken with the tank and the box on you can see what was removed. If you have to you can remove the intake manifold on those 2 cylinders and get to it easy if this is what you are talking about.

no need to remove anything.
For help finding where it all is, try a parts fiche (I like hondapartsnation.com). Look at carbs for your bike (any Valk will work)-the picture will show the relationship of the screw, knob, carbs, etc. and help you visualize what you'll be doing.
Look up into the area between 2 & 4, you'll see where it goes. There is a flat washer at the end of the screw (hex head small bolt actually) where it comes through the knurled plastic adjusting knob. If you don't see it look on top of the block-it will have fallen farther than your fingers can reach. If it's lost, find one the right size to use instead.
After you get the screw through the knob (with the washer in place) you will note the the screw is not held in the knob and it will fall out. Try a dab of something sticky to hold it in place.
The screw goes in at an angle-not perpendicular to the carbs or anything else for reference. Look again to try to see this.
Balance the knob on a pair of long 90* needle nose pliers and lift it up to screw it in-this will hold the screw from falling out. Take your time turning the screw to be sure it is started and is not being cross threaded. I have done this on my bike and on one other. Patience is the operative word to be sure you get the screw started correctly.
Once it's there adjust it up, start the bike and finish the idle adjustment.
If you do feel a need to remove any intakes-be sure to plug the hole into the head with a paper towel or something so nothing falls into the head-that could be a pain.
