Okay fellas Ty and I are stumped.

We pulled the shaft out of the final drive w/ quite a bit of effort it final came out of the "joint pinion".  Upon examining the splines on the shaft they were pretty cut up and then looking into the cup on the final drive it is shot as well.  There is one nut holding it on but I can't figure out how to remove it w/o putting an impact and hoping for the best.  Any suggestions on what to do.  We have ordered all the parts to replace it and I do have the Honda shop manual reading how to replace it but has anyone successfully accomplished this?  Any advice would be great.  I called the local Stealer and they quoted a price of 2 1/2 hrs and the price of 200 bucks...

We have time to think of what to do since the parts won't be here for another week or so....  Any ideas are well appreciated.

Thanks guys..

Ps.  I can post pictures if you need to see it but take my word they are shot!!

If you have a good impact it will back it off. That's what I use to change them out. If your impact doesn't work carry it to a tire shop and they have some good high speed impacts. The nut only torques to 80 lbs.

Thanks warlock for the info....

Yeah we tried to hold the cup and use a wrench and that just wasn't going to work...  We put the impact to it and zip!!! spun right off....   Roll Eyes

2 1/2 hrs?!  No wonder they are called stealers.  I had to do this.  New driveshaft and pinion cup.  3 seconds off with impact wrench, 5 seconds to put new one on.  And they want 2 1/2 hours labor?

Ya, but that 2.5 hrs probably covers r/r from the bike as well.........2.5 would be fast if thats the case

No we had it out, I told the sales manager that I have the pumpkin in hand.  I think he was talking about replacing the bearing and the shim and all that.... I don't need that.  Another question....

Ty's u-joint doesn't have any play in it but and moves freely up and down (so to speak) but the left to right has some resistance but no rough feel to it...   I am thinking it would be a good idea to get one for a "if" situation but would you replace it now or wait?

I just ordered the yoke - better safe than sorry. I'll replace it and keep the old as a spare.

Joe I can't thank you enough for all of your help on this.  cooldude
