Friend of mine just picked up a 99 I/S with 64000 miles. Was doing a service on it when I found splines worn about 50%. Unless I can find a rear end guess I'll be rebuilding this one. Even if I can find one I'll still rebuild this one for a spare in case other trouble down the road.

Which splines were worn, the drive flange splines or the driven splines. If its the drive flange splines, no need to rebuild the whole final drive unit. If you need a final drive unit check Pinwall.

Both are worn. I just spotted one on evil bay I might bid on. The female side is worn a little worst than the male. Looks like they have changed the male already at one point. The female are around 60% and the male around 50%.

If you can find a GL1500 Goldwing rear from a trike builder, the male and female splines interchange with the valk. You will have to get a bearing pressed on and off, but this is an option.

Have thought about that also.
