I am looking at putting some custom grips on my bike.  What do I need to consider when looking at all the custom grips out there aside from 1 inch bars?

I've had good luck with Kuryakyn.
Every thing they make seems to fit well, and the chrome is pretty good quality, for it's cost.
The valk requires a few extra spacers etc,and not every generic 1" grips will work.
I'm looking forward to hearing about some other options.

There are lots of choices out there available for you. Kuryakyn Isos are my favorite. Grips are a personal choice & I know Kury lists different part #s for different bikes. Length is the usual difference. Check out what's on other peoples bikes & ask them if you can check them out before you decide.

I have Kuryakyn's now.  I want something else.  Will most Harley custom grips work?

I wanted something other than Kury Isos, too.  I put these Big Bike Parts Comfort Raised Grips on + Throttle Boss.  They are slightly convex and really comfortable to me.  Plus, they are similar to my foot pegs and highway pegs!

I always use Iso grips.

But these look very interesting, and come in a version to fit Valk that has a throttle lock lock built in.

Can anyone tell if the grips I linked to above will work?

My I/S has the Kury Iso-Grips (thanks to IZ IV). But on my 98 standard I replaced the stock grips with another set of OEMs. I always thought the stock grips were quite nice and grippy (?).

I used the 1 inch Iso Flame grips from Kury. Kury said they were not for a Valk but they went right on and work great. Not everyone has the flame ISO grips and I did not like the large size of the regular ISO grips.

What's involved in replacing stock grips with the Kury Isos?  I'm thinking of blinging up my 97 standard a bit with grips, pegs (foot AND shifter) and a brake pedal cover.  Probably do the grips first, as I have Mongo hands and they tend to numb up a bit on rides longer than 20-30 minutes.  Will I also need to replace my throttle lock?

Thats what I put on my custom to keep the flame theme.

Everything you need to know to replace the grips is right here:  http://bigbf.com/bigbf_shop/grip_criuse/

You can probably keep the throttle lock, but will need to be reinstalled.

I would recommend the MADCO throttle lock. http://www.madcorider.com/cam-lock_honda_cruisers.html

Kinda pricey at $130 (I got mine back when it was only $100), but looks nice and works perfect.

I understood your question, but I have no answer for you.  The only thing I would know to do is get a measurement of the O.D. of both sides of the handlebars (seems to me that the right and left hands may not be the same, but I'm not sure), the minimum length, and contact the seller for the specific dimensions on the grips.  It looks like the second grips you listed would have to have the throttle cable portion removed or modified.

Good luck.

Been scouring the internet for the best price on Kury Isogrips, was nearly ready to pull the trigger on one site, then ended up walking into our little Honda/Yamaha combo shop here in Lompoc and they has ONE set of Kurys... 6190's for the vALK, FOR $49.99! Cheapest I'd found anywhere even including sales tax.  Looks like I have myself a Valk project for next weekend!
