My wife has been using a iRiver 5 GB MP3 player on our Std. that I have had for several years.  It has been starting to mess-up.  It started to only repeat the same 30 songs and there are over 900 in it.  Now it plays one song and stops.  I would like to get something that isn't a hard drive like this thing is.  Flash memory?  She will need to be able to see whats going on with it and should be able to attach it to the tank bib...(Mustang).  We attach the iRiver with a dual sided velcro strip that wraps under and around the bib and running through the belt loop slit.

I have setup a BlueTooth receiver to my amp, and use my iphone or an ipod,  works very well, no wires,  just create a playlist and let it rip.  Other advantages i can hear when the phone rings as well as receiving a text or email.

iPhone and iPod here. Just strap an arm band case holder thing around my belt buckle so I don't get a crazy tan line and run my headphones through my shirt! I usually just do it on long slab trips though.

iPod Classic easily wired into the Interstates audio system. Sounds great through the helmet speakers too.

I use my Blackberry. I have it running through my Interstate Aux input. Bluetooth headset for the phone. I found a mount for the handlebars at Mountguys.com. Hard to see the screen in the bright sunshine, but, works good for the tunes. cooldude

Ipod nano, here.

+1

I lay it against my riser and stem nut. I have a protective case that has a rubbery back and it never moves. It's connected by a wire that runs under the tank to an amp that's under the seat. I ran a connector from the amp to input jacks that hang right in front where you insert the key to unlatch the seat. I plug my ear phones in there.

Garmin NUVI 660 with a 4 or 8 GB SD Card.  It's not waterproof, but neither am I and we both survive a little rain (I put a sandwich baggie over it or take it off in heavy rains).

I use a Nuvi 750, sandwich bag when needed. I never needed or wanted tunes before a couple years ago. I got the Nuvi to use in my truck, but thought I would use it occasionally on the Valk. One thing led to another, and now I am addicted to music while riding-they go great together. I have a fairing with speakers, but I prefer using etymotic earbuds both because of better sound quality as well as little or no wind noise.

I prefer riding with music - what fun is it to be heading down the blacktop and not be able to react to "Born to be Wild" or "I can't drive 55"?

I currently run a Sansa 4gb mp3 with an expansion card slot on my I/S. I use the 4GB for standard "can always listen to" music and the expansion slot for my moods. Feel like a little more Sinatra than normal? Put in the Sinatra card. Feel like some heavy metal this trip? Add that card. I just shuffle my music and enjoy what comes over the speakers or through the headset.
I have a tank bag and I mount my player there so if something plays I don't feel like listening to I skip to the next song.
You can pick up the Sansa players on woot.com occasionally for about $35 I have had one go bad on me - but someone must have stepped or pushed down on it as the display was cracked.

All that being said I am looking to use my iphone - word is the newer GPS software is starting to come out with turn by turn directions and I would like to have all of it in one unit.

I use a Sansa 4gb plugged into the radio system on my Interstate.  Go to https://tigerdirect.com and check out their good variety and prices.

I have the cheapest triple A battery one I could find, ear buds under my helmet, set it on random play, stick it in my pocket, and hit the road.  I mostly use it for all day traveling by my self.  4 hrs of self loaded music, plus a 4gig chip of 8hrs (Skynard, Kansas, FW Mac, Ronstadt, Orbison, Hank jr., etc, etc.)  And don't be concerned, I can still hear outside noises,  I have very good ear buds, cost more than the MP3.

Just put a Woody's fairing on my 2001 standard and put a Sony stereo that has a pop out tray with a USB plug.  Plug in your MP3 and put inside the stereo.  I use Ipod Nano.  Works great.

The software I use is NAVAGON. I only got the "My Region" section. It was about $15.00 at the time I bought it.
The mount is a hard plastic holder I picked up at wally-world for about $10.00. I ran a couple of large stainless steel band clamps through holes I cut in it and around the plate on the bars. You can see the adjustment screws in the pic. (I'll get a shot of it without the phone and post it back here.)
My wife picked up the bluetooth head set for me at Big-Lots for about $10.00. Mine is stereo, so there's a little cord about a foot long that runs from the powered side to the other ear.
I love it. I've got the navigator, my iTunes, and a phone if I need it. Not to mention all the other apps on my phone.

Click on the photo and it will take you to my blog on the subject.

Hey Steve,

All the suggestions are good ones.   I have I-pods that work great... but if you want FM radio as an option, the Sansa's have that for ya too, with expandable memory via the SD cards... From around $30 and up , you can't go wrong...  Creative has Zen players on the website as refurbs at a great price too... I have used them too.  Love 'em, here ya go:  http://us.outletstore.creative.com/

Anyway, if you want an I-pod, I have several used ones to sell, from regular HD versions to I-pod Touches... with wi-fi to get e-mail while at hotel/motels, etc....   some have up to 8000+ songs on them...  LMK....   Whatever you do,  good luck!

I modified an old cup holder...took the fold down cup off of it....bent it towards me slightly, put some velcro on it and the back of the  Ipod and ran a 6' super shielded cable up the right side of the bike under the tank that I got from Radio Shack.....if it rains, I just slip a regular sandwich bag over it and keep on riding..... cooldude

+1. I don't worry about a power cord. The classic iPod plays for at least 15 hours. I charge it when I stop.

Thanks for all the replies.  Just ordered an MX 8 GB Zen off Amazon for $60.00.

30 hours of play time on a charge.  Should be perfect for her.

Stanley, I will use your mounting suggestion.   cooldude  I have a spare one of those cup holders that won't work on her Std with the Deuce risers...wrong angle.
