Guys I picked this up today along with the saddlebags, in great shape. I paid $100.00 bucks for it(hard bags sold separately) and I'm not sure if I want to use it. If I don't use it what will I need to mount the hard bags? Whats something like this worth?

You need the bottom pieces to mount the bags.  The outer part is the add on guard.  The guards will bring $300+ on fleabay.  Very much in demand.  Why would you sell.  The mts bring 2-300.  You got a steal.

Ok, I see now. I didn't realize that it was the bottom pieces that are used to attach the bags. I will probably keep the guardrail, I didn't know what I had. Thanks, I appreciate the help. cooldude

More importantly, the guy you bought them from didn't know what he had!  I paid $300 last year for the stays only, then found a guy (who also didn't know what he had) and bought unwrapped, but never mounted guardrails for $130.00.  You win!  Great Job!

Around 2 years ago a rash of bag rails came up both on the classifieds and in eBay... I bid on numerous
ones, trying to get some for less than $500... I ended up with some from the classifieds for $700.00...

These days, now that the (some say substandard) knockoffs are available on eBay
for $300.00 or so, maybe the price of real bag rails is down...?

It doesn't look like he needs anything but a couple sets of bolts and 4 spacers to mount some bags.
What parts are you guys thinking he is missing?
Great find for $100.
Most mounts without rails sell for $300.
The honda rails provide more protection and still go for $600 or so on the bay.
The cheaper show chrome are strickly for looks.
I imagine in a crash the rails would slide out of the cheap front mounting and damage the saddle bags.
I have the show chome version and hope I never have to find out if they work.

http://www.rattlebars.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RM&Product_Code=RB220   has "Bag Drop Kit".  It will allow quick removal of bags and rails and mounts.  Since you are short the bolts, this kit replaces them anyway.  RB220 is part number.  $49.99, less 10% for VRCC member.  Great deal.
