Frasier in Southeast Tennessee

« on: August 13, 2010, 07:19:43 PM »

I cannot join you for the full Natchez Trace trip, I know you will have a great time.
If possible I will see you in Booneville, and ride most of the way to Nashville.

Here is some info that I have used over the many times I have traveled the Trace, hope it helps.

Coming north from Natchez: recommended tourist stops in order

Mount Locus  - old homestead farm with tours
Emerald Mound  - largest of the indian mounds
Sunken Trace - amazing sunken road, worn by travel, 12 to 15 feet deep
Rocky Springs - old town site, church still standing and operating
French Camp - small private school town, small log eating place great soup.
Pharr Mounds - the most indian mounds in one place, nice view
Cave Spring - below ground level cave with spring

There are many others but these are to me must sees.

There are no gas stations on the Trace any more, Jeff Busby Park on the Trace NO LONGER offers gas. Gas stops I have used, in order about every 70 to 100 miles.

Leave Natchez MS with a full tank  -- 90 miles to Jackson
Jackson MS. from Trace take I20 east 1st or 2nd exit -- 85 miles to French camp
French Camp MS. west side of the Trace -- 90 miles to Tupelo
Tupelo MS. from Trace US 278 west 1 block several stations -- 60 miles to US 72
Cherokee AL. from trace take US 72 east 1/4 mile, 1 mile and 3 miles -- 50 miles to US 64
Lawrenceburg TN. US 64 east 8 to 10 miles (Deerfield) or 20 miles to Lawrenceburg
Waynesboro TN. US 64 west 10 -- 70 miles to Franklin, 85 miles to end of Trace TN 100
Franklin TN. TN 96 east 10 miles

There are others, these are the ones I use and count on.
All mileage is approximate.

Have a great time, hope to see you all in Booneville.
