I saw one of these cameras on eBay recently for £1.58 ($2.45) from a supplier in China. I did a search on YouTube and found some videos taken with it. I decided to give one a try for that price I thought why not it can always be given away if it was no good.

I ordered it and it was only $9 p&p and it arrived a couple of days ago. It just turned up in an envelope with a bit of bubble wrap around it. It included three different mounts but no USB cable or memory card (what do you expect for a couple of $'s). It is tiny, smaller than my thumb so I didn't expect that great things from it.

Yesterday I used one of the mounts with a couple of reuseable tie wraps on the left side engine bar and went out with a couple of friends on sports bikes and shot a video. I thought that it had failed because it was turned off when we stopped for a drink after about an hour. Oh well. When I got home I connected it to the PC and found that the memory card had been filled in 22 minutes. It was a 2gB card so obviously I need to get a bigger one.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the video, the audio is OK below about 30mph but after that you get lots of wind noise. I had to trim the video down to fit in YouTubes limits but that is all the processing I did to it. Turn your speakers DOWN to avoid the wind noise.

There is no need to watch all 12 minutes unless you want to. Unfortunately the date / time can't be turned off but hey for less than 12$ who cares.

I will certainly get a bigger card and use it again so it wasn't money wasted imho.

When you get it all figured out let me know.  I was impressed by the road texture it showed.

Colin, when I check on ebay, I found no MD80 cameras for $2. and change. They all wanted $75.00 to $99.00 American for this camera. Can you send the site you used?
Thanks

Here's an eBay search:

http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=md80&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Lotta them for $0.01 with around $15 shipping... Seems that most of 'em come to around $15 with shipping... But for under $20 total expenditure, might hafta snag one just for the heck of it! Cool find!

Hmmm... Wonder if you could strap two of 'em side by side and shoot in 3D... There's gotta be a way to combine the separate footage for that...

Great find, thanks.

Has anyone come up with an effective method to filter or block out the wind related noise?

Just a quick update on this... Mine came in yesterday, and for the price (I paid a little under $12 delivered) I'm VERY impressed...

Not the most exciting ride on earth, but just testing it out, here's a ride through the 'burbs...

Very good pic above.  My Verizon Droid X  should be here in a few days and that will my MC camera.  It shoots 720p for  HDMI quality, motion or still shots.  Hooks up to your TV for a very sharp vid or pic, and can go direct to YouTube.  Will eventually have a movie connection to netflix or blockbuster(filing for bankrupcy).  It can also serve as a host to 5 additional computers.

Another thing it can do is High intensity APPS which includes a Navigator from Google or another provider for free.  No need for Magellan, Garmin or Tom Tom any longer.  and much more...  cooldude

So i ordered one of these (about $11-12 with postage). It arrived just over a week later and had the small camera, a couple brackets and a small CD with setup software.  Turns out the CD was blank.   tickedoff Today I sent out message to seller on ebay so hope I get response.  If not . . . oh well, only $12.

Has anyone got one of these with the CD.  I did send Colin (originator of post) a PM.  If you have one can you email me the setup software from the CD??

My CD had a driver on it, but it's really not necessary... You can either just put the micro SD card into a regular SD sleeve and put that in your SD reader on your computer to get to the files, or you can plug the USB port into the computer, and mine were mounting the SD card as a removable drive with no drivers necessary (XP and Vista)...

If you're still having problems, I'll see if I can copy the contents of the CD somewhere that you could get it, but I honestly don't know what those drivers would even be for to be honest...
