I used to have Skype on this same unit, but seldom used it so got rid of it. Now, my wife would like to be able to talk to, and see, her daughter and newest grandchild. I've been using the Logitech Video system with my daughters, but my wife's daughter has a Mac that's too old so we thought we would try Skype. For some reason, Internet Explorer won't open the download files, thereby preventing me from installing it where I used to have it. I even tried turning off the firewall temporarily to no avail...still won't open it. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated, this is really bugging me. I'm running XP at the moment, thinking seriously about getting a new unit with Win. 7. This computer is about six years old.

John when you try to download the file, look toward the top of your browser window and make sure it is not asking you if it is ok to proceed with the download.

If that is not the problem I have put the Windows version on my FTP server so you can download it.  Simply click on the following link.  The User Name is "anon" and the password is "anon"

Sounds like you have not goten the current updates...
Go to www.windowsupdate.com

Run the updates and then try the install again....

Hope that helps
