This past weekend I got my STD turned IS together. I had it out for a ride Sunday evening at last. Long project back on the road. I have the saddle bag rails and highway pegs to put on.

The extra fuel capacity of the IS tank along with the fuel gauge is a very welcome addition. Since I had to change to an IS wiring harness I was a bit nervious turning the key for the first time. All lights, radio and CB worked. One small change on the kill/start switch connector to get the headlights on. A couple cranks and it fired. The CB was from a Yamaha Venture. I got the combo fold antenna with spitter box from Sierra. Bolted right to the IS antenna mount.

I do have to pull the radiator again and replace the thermosensor with the newer IS one. My coolant light is on all the time. There was a change in the thermosensors in later years and I didn't find this out until it was back together. I'm also dealing with a hinge switch over on my Champion bags. I'm adding the IS hinges but the upper hook needs a custom mount so the hook bolts up. I could have tried to sell the Champions and pick up a set of IS bags but I think I can get the hinge worked out.

A lot of work but it feels good riding on that work.  Smiley

That is REALLY nice man.

While I don't really appreciate the project... I am after all a Libertarian, and defend your right to do it.

It LOOKS really good.  I love the paint scheme, color and detail.

Nice JOB!  cooldude

Nice job...but wouldn't it have been much easier to sell the STD and buy an IS?????

It sure would have been the easy way. Lets say I started out adding the IS tank and just couldn't stop. In three years around here I saw one IS for sale in the paper. By the time I called it was sold. I could have located one out of the area but I decided on the road least taken. On the plus side, while doing this I was over every inch of the bike. Anything that needed attention was addressed in the process.

Nice job  cooldude   I like the color combo as well....I started out with a Standard in 1998 added the saddlebags first then the trunk a year or so later...I went with a Hoppe fairing as I'm not sure if I got into all the wiring involved with the Interstate fairing if my bike would ever hit another lick  ???

Great job Craig - I knew it was going to look good from the pics you sent me. I'm the guy who got your old tank - thanks for the good deal! I've tried to get that little dent out with the canned air
technique (and the one in my fender), but no luck yet. That Honda tin is some tuff stuff I guess. Looks like I may be riding with a couple of dings for a little while - oh well. I've already got another tank, and I'll get some more tins and shoot some paint later this year (I hope).
Hope to see you and your "new" bike at a ride sometime in the future. Safe winds.   John
