Been doing a lot of around town riding lately.  This bike although its built to GO!  does do the put put around town very nicely...too nicely sometimes, you get to thinking "wheres all that POWER?"  Well today, coming home from the gun shop....(see pic) oh I was pumped, they just got the one I was waiting for in and had it on sale $300 off............ok, anways Im about to get stuck behind a dump truck, and I HATE THAT and apparantly so did the car in front of me because he sped up and passed the dump truck, but I thought he waited so long to do it that I wouldnt have time to do it too safely.......but I waited for the car to get around and then I pulled out knowing I may have to miss my turn if its too late..........cruising in 5th at 50mph I just twisted that grip (no downshift) and the lady came to life......no more put puttin, she was roarin.......I had forgot you have to hold on, and almost lost the left grip for a second but she got around the dump truck so fast I had ample time to wait, pull back in, wait, then brake for the turn safely and easily dragged a peg and kept on goin.............I get to pick up the gun Tue.....I guess you have to wait 3 days and weekends dont count.....but get this, he gave me the signed copy of the card reciept, then he called my home...told Judy....I call him back and pretend to be fuming mad......I have to wait 3 days in case Im mad at someone, yet you can call my wife before I actually get home, tell her I bought a gun and she could be waiting for me with hers if she was too upset!!!!!!!  We both had a good laugh

S&W 500 Mag... Nice gun, gotta love a revolver so powerful it can sometimes go full auto (Seriously)

Florida has a waiting period for handguns? Thought all the "free" states had gotten rid of that silliness?

Congrats on the gun! If you handload I can point you to a guy that makes custom cast 700 grain bullets for the 500... 1/10th of a pound of lead going down range can make a BIG impression! Wink

Been around a 500 being shot.  Its been offered to me several times to "try out."  All I can think of is that I might not be able to twist the throttle because my wrist has been jammed into my arm!!!

The other day, we were watching a friend shoot his with various loads in it.  I was standing to the side and back several feet.  The gases released to the side were making my shirt sleeve flap!!!

Beautiful weapon... ENJOY!

I shot my friends 500 and I mistakenly thought you should lock the wrist........holy cow 5 shots and my wrist hurt.  I have since learned its a relaxed locked wrist so it can recoil a bit...the ported barrel does a lot to make it less punishing but its a mamouth.  Im going to shoot enough rounds to get it sighted in and see how I feel at that point.....its not a plinker at $3+ per round.......you aint gettin up though! Ill add actual pics on tuesday............I only have one question.........why dont weekends count for the "cool off" peiod?

You might want to rethink that one.  I gave it some consideration and checked out reviews.  It seems that it doesn't do either shell very well (could be the barrel length).  Granted, it is a nice concept gun, a Two Fer you might think.... but I would want it to do both very well and I believe it falls short.  JMO.

I have a .357 they are perfect against humans.......thats what they are designed for.......anything larger you need LARGER   .50 is the larest revolver you can get.  Im not a hunter but we camp a lot and if a bear came in the campground Id rather have the 500 than the .357

Used to have a .500 Linebaugh, sweet gun.  Wasn't too bad to shoot.  Also had a .475 Linebaugh and it was pure hell to shoot.  Its chamber pressure is much higher than the .500.  It bruised my palm and kept hitting the brim of my hat.  I just couldn't control it even using a two-handed grip.  I found it a new home shortly after that.

Not trying to be argumentative or anything (We get enough of that in all the political threads!) but the max pressure of the S&W 500 higher than the 500 Linebaugh, and equal to the 475 Linebaugh...

S&W500 Mag Maximum listed PSI - 50,000 PSI:

http://www.handloads.com/loaddata/default.asp?Caliber=500%20SqqqW%20Magnum&Weight=All&type=Handgun&Order=Powder&Source

500 Linebaugh - 30,000 PSI:

http://www.customsixguns.com/pricing.htm

475 Linebaugh - 50,000 PSI:

http://www.customsixguns.com/pricing.htm

Don't misunderestimate me, they're all great rounds in great guns, can't help it, I reload, so I'm used to being pedantic about the specifics of the rounds... Wink

Speaking of reloading - Chris, I HIGHLY recommend getting into reloading, that's the only way I can afford to keep my 500 fed! MUCH cheaper to load your own, and more satisfying too IMHO...

Wow, I am impressed!  Smiley I never thought I would see the word "pedantic" in a bikers forum. Not only are you guys good looking, ride fabulous bikes, are politically astute, worldly about firearms, but now I learn that you are literary giants on top of everything else.

Looks like I joined the right board.  cooldude Cool coolsmiley

Chrisj CMA, are you going to be huntiong with that beauty. I have always wanted to go big game hunting with a handgun. Biggest I have is a 357, which I could use but I hear that bigger would be better.

I have killed 2 deer with a .44 mag handgun.  I ain't impressed.  300 grain, hollow point "service" ammo.  I killed a doe at about 30 yards.  I touched one off... and she just "hunched" up a little.  I shot her again... and the same result, only this time she wandered off into the brush.  Well, she only went about 20 yards and expired.  I had hit her 2 times, about 2" apart, right in the boiler room.  And she acted like nothing had happened.  The other one I shot in the head... so she dropped like I pole axed her.

I also killed a buck once, that I found a .44 mag bullet in.  It was a hollow point, all expanded like a flower like it's supposed to.  It had hit him in the neck, made a total pass thru to the other side where it ALMOST exited the off side shoulder. The hide caught it from exiting.  There was a little hemmorage at the entry wound and a little at the exit wound, and that was it.  That deer was not limping, slowed down or anything else.

I'll take my 450 grain sabot style muzzle loader bullet ANY day.  (Indiana is a no-rifle hunting state, or nearly so.)

Chris, if you do, I've been VERY happy with this guys bullets:

http://www.lsstuff.com/ranger-rick/

They're cheap, gas checked and been of good quality, and available in "Mine's Bigger!" sizes, as well as more pedestrian sizes (700 grain all the way down to a little baby 400 grain  Wink )

Oh yeah, and my mom was a teacher, all my aunt's were teachers, my sister's a teacher, my wife's an English major (Now a MBA, so that kinda negates any logic or technical knowledge she used to have, but...) I kinda didn't have a chance, as far as the whole language thing goes...  Grin

That's a stupid law.
Excluding weekends and legal holidays, there is a three-day waiting period to purchase a handgun from a retail establishment. Exempt from the waiting period are concealed weapons permit holders and those trading in another handgun.
Exempt from the instant check are licensed dealers, manufacturers, importers, collectors, persons with a concealed carrying license, law enforcement, correctional and correctional probation officers.
Need to get your concealed carry permit. They have thier perks.  Never knew Fla had so many restrictions, glad it's not that way here.  cooldude hoser

I dont mind waiting a few days....Im not going to conceal this bad boy, and Ive been waiting a couple years already to find the right one, whats a few days.  I only carry my .357 legally loaded in my truck or bike........so the less papers with my name on them about guns sent to Obama the better

I didn't know they had elephant hunting in Florida!  Surely, that is the only thing you would ever need to do with such a cannon.  If you plan on packing that while on the Valk, expect your mileage to drop.  2funny

This model (6.5" barrel) shoots much better than the original!  The porting on top of the barrel is very effective in keeping the recoil under control.  I fired a whole box (20 rnds) and nothing was sore at all.  This was the target after the sight corrections were made:  10 rnds at 15yrds   yeeehaaa  cooldude
