Having followed a couple of threads about converting, i.e.: from Standard to Interstate, I'm depressed and starting a new thread rather than hijacking.
Ended up with 2 bikes! In a place that, at times, seems to have a 3-week riding season...
My awesome Interstate is one. Then, through a fluke and little thought, ended up getting a gorgeous, black 2000 Tourer. My pathetic plan was to rob the Tourer of much of its attractive items. Well, best-laid plans and all that jazz, now I find:

Highway pegs don't fit on the IS (air scoops part of the IS bars)
Handlebars are shorter on IS
The nice, chromed switch housings do not fit the IS (cabling is different)
Electrical harnesses are different
Etc...

Even thought of just swapping out the whole handlebar set, but now it seems that it won't work.
Some of the smaller stuff, chrome bits and such, just seem not worth it to molest a great looking Tourer.
May have to keep both and look for ideas. Evil

Well, that's what you get for thinking of cannibalizing a perfectly functional Valk.   Wink

Karma is a cruel bitch.

The highway pegs will fit.  Just cut the IS air scoops off the engine guards (dremel)... they don't do diddly for cooling or air management anyway (they are cut off my interstate).  Or those pegs can be mounted just behind the scoops, but this makes them prone to drag in the corners.

The IS handlebars are only a half inch shorter than tourer.std, 1/8 inch on each side... but the chrome control covers will not fit the IS controls (without modification) and the handlebar length is not the reason.  Leave them on the tourer.  Just take good aluminum polish (BomsAway) and you can polish the interstate control housings to a near chrome shine without the covers.

How do the IS engine guards interfer with highway peg placement.  I check out the microfiche and could find no difference.  If the IS engine guards don't interfer with the Kuryakyn 4050 offset mounts I might be interested in a trade for your IS engine guards if they are in as good a shape as my Standard guards.

The Interstate engine guards have a small scoop underneath that extends down the smaller bar. You cannot slid the peg mount up far enough to get to the straight part of the bar.(Goes off on an angle) Some short legged guys do use the slanted part of the bar to mount pegs, as it puts them in reach. I notched mine for old style pegs and they worked just fine. But they will drag sooner than I like and opted for a different style that clamp to the crash guard themselves. Don't know about the Kury offset tho cooldude

I'm using the 4050s on my IS. I mounted them behind the scoops and reversed the 4 bolt chrome pieces that the arm is mounted to. This reduces (but does not eliminate) the angle.
When you're in the twisties you need to flip the pegs up. I like the angle, it keeps your legs further away from the (hot) valve covers.
In fact I mounted 4050s on my Standard/Tourer the same way.

I have my 4050s mounted all the way forward so the IS guard may not work for me.

These are the prgs on the Tourer:

Any thoughts on totally swapping the handlebars, hoses/cables and all? Would that work between a Tourer and an IS?
