hi all, i'm new here but i have a 2000 valk st, and i been having this problem for sometime, when the engine gets hot from riding for a while than i hear this taping sound from the right side at 2000 -25000 rpm s , nothing below or higher that 25000,even at standstill ,but than sometimes it wont hardly make anysound at all ,i can hear its like one valve making the sound ,you think its a seal or a flat spot in the head or no . its got power and no oil leak, bought it to the honda dealer and they said they dont find anything but i put a pipe to it and i can hear it ,even with out the pipe to valve head cover.think i should bring it to a car machine shop and let them take a look or not i really like to do it myself but lack of knowledge keeps me from doing that , so anyone else had this problem.ty.tbonenf911...........

Sounds are different between iron and aluminum engines and travel differently/strangely.. Is this monster de-smogged?? If not, the sound could be coming from the reed valve assembly.. It could also be coming from any number of places, like,,, exhaust gasket, intake hose or cap, loose valve adjustment.. If it is definitely coming from inside the valve cover, just remove it and check the valve lash..However, your description leads me to believe thats its not a valve adjustment problem..

Sounds like an exhaust leak.

nothing below or higher that 25000,even at standstill

I can't stop myself-  It might have something to do with running it at 25000 rpm  Grin  Welcome to the boards, tbonenf911.

LOL !!  I guess I didn't see that !!  Yep, 25,000 RPMs just may have something to do with a couple strange noises !!
