Jeff Wilson, Fourtyniner, out of Alabama hit a deer on the Trace on the way to the ride in yesterday. He was taken to Natchez and then flown to Jackson, Mississippi. Smokin'Joe and Hubcap's group was like the second people to get to the scene of the accident - I take it Jeff was riding alone. Joe said it was a good distance from where impact was made with the deer, where the bike stopped and where Jeff stopped.
Last report was broken ribs, broken collar bone and head trauma (bleeding). Joe has been in contact with Jeff's family about updates but this was the one I just got from the group on the Natchez Trace Ride (I had to peel off this afternoon from the group to get home).
Just wanted to let folks know - who knew Jeff that he went down. Keep him and his family in your prayers.
Man, we gotta quit making contact with forest rats. This is what, two in two weeks.

Yes, it was late afternoon. Joe's group arrived at the hotel around 6 or so. It was around mile marker 20 on the Trace, so it must have happened around 4 or 5 I would think.

I tried to see if University Medical Center has an email system for patients online but hit dead ends. Tomorrow I'll call and see what I can find out. On another note I almost ate a deer or four today. At the exit Strider left the group, another rider pulled over to the side. Being tailgunner I stopped to see if I could help. He told me he was fine and was riding with Strider back to Louisiana and missed the exit. I wished him well and accelerated hard to catch up with the group. I had just shift into 4th gear when I saw Bambi's mom stick her head out of the bushes on the side of the trace. I have a herd that crosses the road twice a day at my place, I'm very familiar with the hazard they cause. Plus Forty Niner's accident Friday was still fresh in my brain. I hauled on Sandman's brakes with everything I had. Stopped about 20 yards away and put on my 4 ways to warn anyone behind me. Bambi's mom took her sweet time crossing the road with three fawns following her. If I hadn't stopped, I might not have hit her but I would have creamed one of the fawns and I was so far behind the group no one would have known I was missing till they stopped for gas in Clinton. Prayers from Connecticut as well. We've got deer all over the place here also. Used to be you had to worry at dusk, evening and dawn. They've gotten so accilmated to people they travel any time. My wife had one jump over a guard rail at 11 AM, smack dab into the winshield of her Mini van. Almost totalled the car and in a very populated area.

Prayers sent! Injuries sound just like Clint's, except for the head trauma. Forest rats and pheasants are the main reason I really try not to ride just before and after sunset, although not always possible.

Well a Deer Strike is bad.
Think about trees down in the road, cows out of their pasture.
I had a friend hit a Horse in a Small Car, broke every bone in his face.
Well wishes and prayers for Jeff and family.
If I ever hit a deer while riding a motorcycle and live , I will eat it's liver for good luck.
Of course well cooked and with lots of onions.

Well wishes for a full/quick recovery. Rode home LATE Friday night in deer country and was in NO hurry... and very mindful. Don't need any of that action outside of hunting season.

Jeff was going to try and meet up with Santa and me, but got help up at a job and got a late start. He told us to go on and he would see us there. I have never met him and was looking forward to meeting another Valk rider in my area. I was shocked when Joe got there and told us what had happened. When I asked who it was, he said Fortyniner. I looked at Santa and said "that's the guy who was going to meet up and ride down with us!" I really hope that he recovers quickly and completely. Prayers from north AL.

Jeff and his wife Patricia are really nice people, I've ridden with both of them before.
I helped pick Jeff's bike up at Cheaha when the wind blew it over one night.
My heart sank when I recognized the bike as we were picking it up out of the ditch on the Trace...
Prayers from Cleveland Tn...

14 in the face ,8 in the cranium. My experience is that todays plastic surgeons are INCREDIBLE and the ribs hurt alot more than a broken head and face.

Recent personal experiance says ribs hurt like hades, whenever you least expect it. I could probably send a quart of cold pack, if he wants a little revenge. Pretty good with gravy over rice or potatoes with carrots, peas and corn mixed in.
