But, I’m watching good morning America and there’s this story of a guy that left his wife and three kids 41 years ago when the youngest kid was only 1 month old.  He has cancer and is dying; his youngest daughter is now a nurse and is now taking care of her dying father.  They meet in the hospital, and she finds out who he is.

I’m sorry, but, what a piece of crap this guy is!  Leaving his wife with no support, three kids never knowing who dad is, or worse yet, leaving them to fend for themselves, and now the youngest has to take care of him.

I often feel inadequate as a father.  Knowing that I could do so much better, attend more school programs, or soccer games, go camping more, or just play with my kids more!  But, at the least I’m here for my kids.  This piece of crap didn’t even do that!!

Yeah Alph... I didn't even look at the link.  But I agree with you.  We are the biggest thing we can give our kids.  I intend to do my damndest.

Today... me and Mini-Me are spending the whole day together.

I think it depends on the parent. If the parent is a loser, its probably not the best idea to hang around and poison the kids and the environment. Should he have got involved and provided some support to the best of his ability, of course but hence the Loser status.

My ex and I realized we couldn't continue with a loving household after 7 years of marriage and having created a budding family. I think this was the single most hardest and heartwrenching thing to confront and to make the break.

We split and I took the kids on eventually full time. My job then took me to different states over the years leaving me to raise my two kids single handedly. We all managed to survive. It's not easy but it can be done.

Daughter is now 27 and son is 25.

Here's a shot of my daughter and my two grandkids during a Boulder, NV train ride last week.
