Just wonderin' did you pull the drive shaft out of the final drive and check it ? My friend's Interstate was down the last couple weeks waiting on parts....His pinion cup and drive shaft was fried on that end....His bike has 38,000 miles on it.

OK so how long does it take you from start to finish to do a rear tire change, complete maintenance on rear grease clean splines and teeth top up rear fluid. This also includes mounting the new tire. Plus remove finger prints of course. It took me about 4 hours from ride in with old tire to ride out. Seems a bit long so thats why I'm asking.

21K on this one, and that is tomorrows project. I doubt that it has ever been done to this one. Oil was clean but I think that he threw a damp rag at it when I was coming to pick it up so I am going to say that general maint. was left to fate.

Got me by the short and curlys. This is my first one  uglystupid2

4 hours seems pretty good to me though. I fumbled with the removal double checking myself and I probably had her out in 35-40 min worked (????). I could probably do it in 30 from wheels down if I didn't take the time to pull stuff off to clean as I was going.

It seems pretty straight forward, but I am taking it easy cuz of the newbie factor, plus Mothers Aluminum and Chrome cleaner is leading the way. I am not a detailing freak, but there is a point between putting more miles on your sponge than your bike and not caring for your equipment that I like to be at. I used to wax dump trucks in the off season. They weren't for show, but the owner cared enough not to run around in a box of nastiness.

I am hauling the wheel to a dealer and letting him put the tire on, I have enough to do on her to put the stuff I was able to salvage off the other one and cut a hole in the crud on it. Next weekend is shot (unless it rains hard) and likely Thurs and Fri are toast and part of Wed eve is used also.

I need the tire on because PA has state inspection and that slick would never pass.

BTW, what seals did you replace when you pulled the pinion cup? The driven and drive had what used to be grease on them, it was hard black and not greasy. The splines from the front of the driveshaft were wet with grease and looked good.

Scootworks 2in
When I put the Mustang seat on the other one I ended up farther away from the handlebars than I wanted to be. Those put the grips back in my hands.

Nice looking scoot, anytime you pull things apart you see all the places you missed. Everything looks really good as far as wear. Good idea to do a walk through it will help out some that have never done it before.

Got about 2 hours to mess with her tonight, so the plan was the back off XP modulator and plate frame LED, and the rear end.
Got the XP wired in to find that it didnt seem to like being salvaged. It is no longer a flasher, so the plate frame went on with extra work, as a secondary brake light only. If you want to do something lke this, the brake light is gr/yel, the running light is is brown, and the gnd is green. And I just realized why the XP didnt work, polarity is a bitch DOOOOH!!!  Embarrassed  Friday is another day...........

Then went to the messy stuff, honda moly paste. It gets on everything.

And just as a experiment, I cleaned out the pinion cup and the little holes in back. Then I dumped some of the other gear lube in and held it up.

I would have to say that its pretty clear, the pinion cup is lubed by the gear oil. Another reason to check and change your fluids. I will post this to the tech side, its a pretty good debate over there.

Thurs and Fri got volunteered for fence building and pool closing, and wood cutting and splitting and barn cleaning and general get ready for winter stuff since I had vacation I had to take. Just think, now I can do my house to.........
Sat was scouts, Sat into Sun I took them into my woods for a "poop in the woods" night. Hiked them in 1.5 mi with packs. They learned a little. Only one forgot food. 3-4 decided that they could lighten up even more.

Anyway, got rid of the bout of crainalrectumitis and wired gnd to gnd. Imagine that, the back off modulator worked. Safety tip: when you drop your soldering iron, let it fall, don't grab it.

Then me and Jack put the wheel and tire up.

Saddlebag brackets

and then lubed her

Had to test drive the tire so went for a short spin. I guess that it's about time to visit the notary for the dreaded MV-44. PA transfer paperwork.
