I've got the Mustang seats on my Valk....they came with the bike. I've tried (and owned) several other types/brands of seats and so far, the Mustang seats seem to work the best....for me and the wife. However, the Mustangs I have don't have a backrest....and I'd like a backrest. I'd like to either buy a backrest that will work with the seats I already have, but as a last resort, I'm thinking I could sell my seats and buy the one that comes with a backrest. So here are my two questions...... 1. Does anyone make an aftermarket backrest for the Mustang seat? If so, does anyone have any experience with it. And....... 2. Does anyone have any experience with the Mustang seat that comes with Mustang backrest? Like this one..........

Well....for one, is the backrest worth the price for new Mustang seats? Is it comfortable....or there better backrests?
Also, is there a aftermarket backrest that works with the Mustangs? If so, where do I get one?

I had the Mustang seat with backrest. I loved the backrest but the seat part was not too wonderful. As far as an aftermarket backrest, no knowledge of one for the Mustang. Sold the Mustang & bought an Ultimate. Great seat!

Tropic..... Which Ultimate is that on your red & white? If I was to switch to an Ultimate seat (or any other brand), I'd need a seat that puts me further back and perferably lower than stock. The Mustang puts me further back, but is taller. Taller is OK, perfer lower, but I need further back.

Yeah, I've got a 2000 and up seat also. It'll probably end up in ebay sooner or later...not sure yet if I want to let it go. It's not bad and sits nice, but it puts me more forward than I want to be.

I was told that a Utopia backrest will work with mustang seat but it is a tight fit.

I tried to put my mustang seat on one of my friends bike that had a Utopia and it wouldn't work. My mustang has the built in back rest. A Mustang that doesn't have a built in back rest might work. Don't know if they are made different or not. I like the way a Utopia back rest fits my back. David

2. Does anyone have any experience with the Mustang seat that comes with Mustang backrest? And here are my answers ....... 1. I do have a after market backrest that is sitting in a box after I scored on a complete 4 piece Mustang seat on craigslist (just like in your picture). Below is a picture of the bike with the old backrest. There's really nothing wrong with it .... it was replaced with the Mustang set. If you're interested I'd be willing to part with the old backrest for a very reasonable price. I have no plans to use it. It mounts under the rear seat and is adjustable. 2. My experience with the Mustang backrest is positive - very comfortable

If your're talk'n passenger pad... Mustang use to have a backrest that bolted up to the OEM Hondaline backrest bar. A vertical backrest instead of tilted backwards. Yank the Honda backrest and replace with Mustang. Plug'n Play.... Have had the Mustang passenger backrest on the OEM hardware for over ten years. One of the very first things I did after I procured the scoot.

It really does sit you lower & a tiny bit forward of the stock 2000 up seat. Here are pics of a stock 2000 up seat for comparison. BTW it is a great seat, IMO as good or better than a Mustang. Of course the King BB is wider than all of them! If you can't find a backrest that will work with your Mustang, a cheap {I paid $79.99 from HDL} seat to try is the 2000 up stocker & an aftermarket backrest may work for you. Forget about stock '97-'99 Valk seats.... OUCH!

BF, there is a Mustang with backrest for sale in the classifieds. Since having my first Mustang with a front seat backrest, I have considered the driver's backrest indespensible.

BF I ve got the mustang back rest never used .i like the seat but the utopia back rest is much wider , taller, better and it fits if you add a couple of washers to the mounting bracket to bring it up and tilted backwards a little. thats the one I used with the 2000 seat. the mustang has more padding, better on long rides. plus the pillion seat and back rest are more comf. for SO

So if I understand you correctly, you're saying the Utopia works well with the Mustang seat by adding washers to bring it up a little?

BF,yes, was that answer confusing? I run the 3 piece mustang with a utopia driver back rest if you want the mustang back rest it could be wrestled out the dark corner where it rests.

Thanks for the info franco. Would it be possible for you to take a couple photos of your Utopia backrest installed on your Valk and post them here......maybe a close-up showing how it's mounted without the rear seat on it? It would really be appreciated if you could.

Hope these help. I have the Mustang seat set with a modified utopia backrest. Because of the overlap of the passenger seat over the driver seat it was necessary for me to take the backrest mounting bracket to my welder and add an inch or two for a perfect fit. First photo just shows the seat backrest combo http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2761051570040188367emynMnSecond photo shows the bracket coming up between the VERY tight fit (I had to remove a few conchos and fiddle to get this just right) http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2329294970040188367iYolIkThe final photo shows the bracket in detail after the mods. The lowest part of the vertical bar was added in between the base and the upper part. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2905825840040188367vZjGNwHope these photos work....I'm a little rusty. Mr. Nuts
