Hey everyone ! When I was looking for a Valkyrie to buy & I saw the one that I did buy I noticed that the front tire have a lot more wear on the left side than the right side. I had never seen this before in a motorcycle. My first thought was that it had been in an accident & that the frame mey possibly be bent. The company that sold me the Valk said they would replace the front tire at no charge to me. And, they did. I bought it anyway thinking in the back of my mind that is had a bent frame. Shortly afterwards I bought a rear tire for it too. The front tire is almost worn out now but is has pretty even wear from side to side. I like to read everything I can about motorcycles of all kinds. Well, recently I read an article that I found on the RATTLEBARS site about tire wear & it cleared up the whole matter. The article makes a LOT of sense. Very, very good article. If you haven't read it you may want to. They mention that is is not totally based on factual research but it does seem very logical. I do a lot of long distance riding & tires do not last long time wise. The Valk gets about 10,000 miles on the rear & about 14,000 miles on the front. That is a Heck of a lot better than my Stratoliner. The Strato gets about 6,000 miles. Terrible for long distance riding. If I were to to do the S.C.M.A.'s U.S.A. Four Corners Tour & do some side states at the same time I would not be able to do it on the Strato but I could do it on the Valk. There is NOTHING, absolutely, nothing worse than havine a bad tire on a long trip. I am sure some of you know what I mean. Anyway, read the articel. Ride safe & give the right of way to those impatient drivers. tommy IBA 1990

Nice bike! I really like the trim on the fenders - I just put the front trim on mine, as well as the rear trim on the rear, and was wondering what the fender extension on the back of the front fender, would look like. Now I know! When I first got my Valk in June, I "ruined" the rear tire, by riding it 25 miles very under-inflated, badly cupping it - I had checked everything else, but spaced the pressures. Still riding it, trying to get some wear out of it, but nothing long-distance. I read the article you mention then, but will go back and re-read it. I find I always learn a few things, each time I read info on the Valks. I did have to go and google, to find out what a Stratoliner was... R

10k-15k is about average for me as well on the rear - I have never gotten 20k+ out of a rear tire (and I don't run aggressive and keep a few psi over recommendation in pressure). I get 20+k on the front - best mileage yet is the E3 on the front right now (needs changing soon - but is 2 years old now - bought on the way to Tucemcari two years ago in Colorado Springs) but never gotten close to 20k on a rear. I know I may change earlier than actually needed, but when it gets to the wear bars, I change it as soon as I can - don't want to be in the middle of nowhere and need a tire.
I have run Dunlops, Dunlop E3, Avons and for the last 3 tires or so, Bridgestone Battleaxes. I get some of the worst mileage out of the Bridgestones, but that is because they are sticky - great in the curves, but don't get the wear out of them like a hard tire. One thing about the Bridgestones - if you get near the wear bars, change it because they wear down quick from there.
Anyway, that is just me.
PS: Great shot! Awesome looking bike bro!

I've never got more than 10k on any mc tire on the rear of my Valk. 10k is the limit for me. I'm sure I will get more than 20k out of the current C/T, if it stays on long enough. Oh well, who cares tires schmires iba1990, The real reason I posted is to tell you that's a great looking bike and great photo I attempted to make it up Pikes Peak several years ago in my old Jeep Cherokee. That old dog wouldn't make it past 6 thousand feet. Things got real quiet up there, couldn't even here the engine running, then she just lost power, couldn't get another inch forward out of her. That was real dissapointing and difficult to back down while sliding into a 20 point turn to head back down. I never did get to see the views from the top. I wonder how many others that has happened to?
