Nah - they got their labor force to accept wages closer to foreign labor, so will plod on in the good ol' USA for a while longer. When the laborers concede enough, that they worry about feeding their families, THEN they'll take their show "on the road" overseas...

Harley Davison is currently looking into a possible manufacturing plant in India.
Low wages and a ideal location for the immerging eastern and oriental (China) markets. This is not a rumor, but indeed a fact of globalization.

They'll go where the market (money) is.

The US is fast becoming a service orientated nation.  Do you suppose the universities will soon offer a degree in flippin' hamburgers? Sad

On my list of bikes to one day collect is the one cylinder tiny HDs. I'd love to ride it to the local H.O.G. gathering. It is on my list. And maybe a step through frame Indian scooter. Oh yeah!

Britman has the message right.

When we stop manufacturing here, we will truly be humbled to no end.

Just think about it.

A friend, a dyed-in-the-wool Harley rider, told me her next bike would be a Jap V twin rather than a [expletive deleted] China Glide. I gather that some parts are already out-sourced to the Workers Paradise.

That's the future country that we are leaving to our children and grandchildren.  We can reverse the trend if we stop buying from foreign based companies and support the economy of this country.

Does that mean all the guys who bad mouth our rice burners are going to sell their Harleys since they are not made here anymore. As far as the USA, I often wonder who these big firms are going to sell their products to when the entire US workforce is unemployed because they sent all their jobs oversees? Do they think workers in India or Brazil are going to spend $25 K on a Harley when they earn $0.50/ Hr?

That's exactly what they're betting on...

Quote
Harley shipped 32 percent of its motorcycles overseas in 2008, up from 27 percent in 2007.

Wonder what they will call a Harley in India.

Towel King- Road King

Hindu Glide-Electra Glide

More Than Adequate Glide-Wide Glide

Petro Sucker King-Uses more gas than Indian Scooters

Sportster will become the 'Cost more than your sister Special"-Life Styles are lower there.

or They might try to just Say Harley, the leader in technology to make more noise per Gallon than

any motorcycle in India.

3 Rice Grinders in my shed, Valkyrie made in America of Japanese Parts.

Harley made in America with some Japanese Parts , bout 30% I would surmise.

That is basically the same thing in this Global Economy.

Although I burn more calories on the Harley through increased gear shifting and vibration.

But it's all good no matter what you ride.

Cause the world you are riding in, is much bigger, than what your ass is sitting on.
