Back in 2003 at INZANE, I had the oppurtunity to talk to the boys (Andy & Justin) from Viking. I asked what is the most effective way to make my Valk faster. They assumed I had a standard or tourer, and was told "use an I/S ICM and I/S carb springs".

Lamont said "make it lighter and polish the intakes". I was able to remove more than 80 pounds by removing anything that really wasn't necessary.

Big BF suggested lifting the tank on a standard to increase the air the air filter intake.

Well I installed the I/S carb springs, desmog, raised the tank, polished the intakes, and did the simple ECT Mod. I thought it was fast until yesterday. I bought a I/S ICM and installed it, started the bike and it really sounded mean.

I will admit that the bike has Cobra 6x6 pipes that may not increase power.

I took it out on Hines Drive for a little tryout.  I will say this,.......that sucker is FAST. It lifts the front wheel when shifting into second without provcation.
This bike is gonna get me a few tickets without trying,.....$hit I never believed it could get better. I was wrong!

I removed 130+ pounds from my Valk. It's now faster, has increased lean angle and much quieter.

But it wasn't inexpensive.

CA ExhaustCoatings, weight is easy to remove if you think about what you really don't need.

Removed front fender and replaced with VTX C fender, removed front turn signals and replaced with small cateye LED signals, removed windshied and saddlebags. I removed NC light bar, tank badges and rear fender reflectors, removed entire PAIR valve system, removed the original crash bars then added XF6 beast bar. I also changed all the oringinal foot pegs with lighter custom units, removed the rear turn signal/licence plate mount then added a custom curved plate bracket and added a LED tailight/turn signal array into the OEM tailight. Removed the entire passenger backrest/carrier and all brackets and fasteners. I replaced the OEM seats with a Saddlemen "profiler" seat that is far lighter than even the rider portion. The OEM shocks were replaced with 11.5" Progressive units that are quite a bit less heavy than the Honda shocks. I drilled lightning holes wearever it was safe to do so. Replaced the OEM shift lever with an aluminum CBR1100XX shift lever. I accidentlly broke the rear brake Master Cylinder cover so I removed it. Replaced the battery with a smaller "Gel Cell" unit.

I had Cobra pipes on the bike when purchased it, but I'm sure they are somewhat lighter than the OEM exhaust system.

I have even more ideas on where I could reduce weight, but that is going to be a winter project.

Grin Grin Grin   Not even Carrot Cake either......

Most of us are adding chrome here and there, GPS and audio stuff.  Hell.... I bet I could lose 80 lbs off the Valk by just emptying the trunk and saddlebags......   Wink

I believe that I bought Pinwalls their last one during their 20% clearance sale.
However HDL has them and will ship for free.
