Alright, I know someone out there might have a clue to help me out (Melvin, I’m thinking you’re the one!!).

I have a hondaline CB, and antenna, with a J&M headset.  On the speakers of the headset you can hear yourself as if you’ve keyed your mic to talk.  Why??  I haven’t been able to talk to anyone yet with my CB, maybe if I get on the interstate and ask for a radio check I’ll get some trucker to respond.  Who knows????

If anyone has any idea’s, or has this happened to you??

Maybe tonight I’ll get Nitro to help me out…..

You can hear yourself because the intercom is turned up and active.  Press the VMODE button once if the CB is off and twice if it is on and then adjust the intercom volume to the desired level (mine stays on 0 unless I have a passenger).

JoeValkIS is dead on.

Also, you will probably have to play with the squelch.  Turn it up to get static, then turn it down to just where it shuts up.    Ya get it too tight and you won't be able to get out very far, or receive signals with much distance between you and them.

One ya get it figured out, play with it for all your final adjustments.

90% of the truckers today, won't answer a radio check.

As Forrest Gump would say:
“That's all I have to say about that.”

that was it!!!
thanks guys!  that was the problem, now to get another headset for when the kids ride!!  mine was turned up to 20!!  and as for truckers answereing a radio check, you're right about that one also!!  i was able to listen in on a driver asking for directions, while another one gave it to him.  acording to my GPS he was two miles away as the crow flies and i could hear him crystal clear.
