Preface:

I've been seriously annoyed with the current offerings for communication systems for motorcycles.  They are expensive, and use connections that need a hard to find adapter to use a regular mic/earphones.

The question (a few):

Has anyone used a portable, two station, avionics intercom system on a motorcycle?  I know they work really well in small planes and helicopters (my Cessna days have me spoiled)... I'd guess they'd work just as well on a bike.

Can I get a cheap, easy to find set of ear-buds instead of a full on avionics headset with it? Or will the control box blow out the ear-buds?  I'd rather not have to cut out my helmet to mount a full headset inside it.

Do they use a powered Mic or passive?  (It'd be nice to hook it up to a neck mic.)

I'm thinking for $400-$500 ($200 for the control box, about $100 per headset if I use avionics headsets) I can build a damn good portable set... which is about what I payed for my chatter-box that lasted about a year before it crapped out... and never worked well anyway.

Does anyone make a weather resistant version? Or will I have to be sure to mount this in a dry area?

Any info you can give would be helpful.  Thanks.
