I ordered a drive shaft from them for my bike due to the damage I found on mine at last maintenance. When I received the shaft, it was in worse shape than mine.   tickedoff My first thought was that I am out that money,      Angry  but I sent an email to them and got a prompt response apologizing for the problem and asking for a couple pieces of info about my order.  Shocked I responded back and within 1 business day, I got a response that they would replace the shaft if they could get one and if not would refund my money.  Shocked  After a couple days I got an email saying they could not find a replacement and that my paypal account would be credited. By the time I got the email and checked my paypal, the refund had already been made. cooldude

I was very disappointed when I opened the box,  Cry but was impressed with their customer service.  Smiley I would definatly try them again if I need something else in the future.  cooldude

On the other hand, if anyone has a good drive shaft for sale, I need one.

Thanks

Bike Bandit and HDL have new propeller shafts.  I think they're around $50.00.  You might want to get the pinion joint and oil seal also.

I checked HDL first. $110  Shocked. I will try Bike Bandit. I was planning to get the Pinion cup and was going to ask if I needed any seals.  Thanks.

Tim

I stand corrected. Just looked at HDL again and it is about $50. Don't know what I was looking at the first time.  crazy2

i believe in saving a buck, believe me, i am a very cheap person.  but, when it comes to buying parts that are cridical to the operation of my motorcycle i will not buy a part that is not 100% safe, or that may possibly give me any grief in the long run.

now.  think of what you're going through.  your cycle is down, you've got to send the bad part back, you've got to wait for the new one to come to your house, hoping that it's the correct one, then it'll be another week of watching the fall weather tick away!!

(yeah, i'm just as bad.  do you think i've got spare parts laying around? NO.)  can't just go to the dealer and buy parts off the shelf.....

i think the most important parts that we should have on hand would be a universal joint, drive shaft, spline, pinion cup for spline and drive shaft, wheel seals, bearings (which i've got but haven't changed yet!!)

thanks for the heads up time!!  i've got some ordering to do!!  maybe going through my final drive line will be my winter project this year!!

Actually, my bike isn't down. My shaft is still usable till I do next maintenance, but does need to be replaced.  They didn't have me send the bad part back. (I even sent an email and asked to make sure) So I am not missing any riding, just trying to get everything together before I go back into it in a couple thousand miles.

I think they're about out of rear-end parts for Valkyries... four years ago I got a good
final drive from them, when I needed one for my buddy Henry at the beginning of this
summer they sent me a horrible one. They refunded my money, and sent the UPS man
to my house to pick up the unacceptable one... I'd do business with them anytime...

I think Valkyrie final drives (and stuff) might be starting to get hard to find...

Never had a problem with my Valkyrie so I never explored whether or not 1500 cc Goldwing parts are compatible.

Anyone know???

Slowroad, I recently replaced the d/s on my '97 for the same reason, it & the pinion cup were toast!! I guess I got the last good driveshaft for a '97 from Pinwall then. If you look up the driveshaft on HDL using the factory fiche you will see that the '97 takes a different part# shaft than the others. It is also more $$ than the others. At the time {late July} Pinwall had 5 used shafts for sale but only 1 from a '97. It had 29K on it & I bought it based on the part # difference I found on the HDL site.
Paid $29.95 + shipping. I don't know what the difference is between the '97 & other years but I didn't want to risk it. I also bought a new pinion cup & every new seal I could find for the pumpkin from HDL.
Anybody know what the driveshaft difference might be?

I hope the engineers ,gear heads ,metal fab's etc. of this club start re-building the final drive for fun and profit  Smiley . Soon 11 years out of production and there still is'nt anything being made today I would rather ride.

Tropic traveler, I went back and looked again after you posted that it's a different part number. This is what I found:

For 97 GL1500C-     SHAFT, PROPELLER
                                40201-MZ0-000    001    $133.84    $100.11

For 98 GL1500C-        SHAFT, PROPELLER
                                 40201-MZ0-A00     001     $63.25     $48.01    Undecided

At least I now know that I did see $100 price tag. Now, anyone know what the difference is. I really don't want to pay twice as much for a part when the $48 part will work!!  If it's a difference on the pinion end, I am changing the pinion cup too.

Please tell me if you know the difference.

Tim

I just went back & checked the part #'s for a '97 Tourer {CT} vs. a '98 Tourer & they are the same shaft, u-joint, pinion cup AND swingarm. They have the higher priced shaft.
I checked for a '99 Tourer AND a '00 Tourer & thay have the cheaper shaft, same u-joint BUT a different swingarm.
Seems the difference is driveshaft AND swingarm.

Seems the driveshaft & swingarm are the same on a '97/'98 Tourer & the same on a '99/'00 Tourer but not interchangeable from those year sets. I did not check part #'s for a Standard or I/S.
HMMMMM. ???
BTW, pinion cup & u-joint are the same for all 4 years of Tourers.

Update... Same story on Standards & Interstates {although I/S are all '99-'01's}.
The only conclusion I can draw from the part #'s is that maybe there is some possible interference on the inside of the swingarm if you were to mismatch driveshafts & swingarms.
???? Surely the length must be the same? Diameter maybe??
Anybody have driveshafts from both a '97-'98 and a '99-'00 that could be laid side by side & measured?
More HMMMMMM!

I believe they are the same.  Daniel Meyer posted pics, which I cannot find, of them side by side.  He measured, no difference.  I have a 97, put the cheaper shaft in when I toasted mine, and no problems.

I just believe it is a supplier thing.

Honda still makes the whole final drive, all assembled, for fun and profit - $1100!

I looked on the HDL parts page, they don't have the whole thing (just parts) listed for a 97, but they have it
for a 2003... no functional difference between them I don't think, at some point they started clear-coating them
or something...

I have a shiny swingarm from a triked Interstate... this thread makes me think maybe it won't fit on my 97 tourer?
