On an interstate the display not lighting up is a good sign the battery is getting very low. It is the first indicator that your gonna be on the side of the road soon. Check to make sure your alt. and main fuse are in good shape ,also cables are clean and tight on battery and  ground at back of block. If all this is good check fuses too.

A friend of mine just went through this two weeks ago, with his I/S. It turned out to be his alternator.

There are 4 bulbs on the back of the dash assembly. I've had 2 go out over the course of years. Remove speaker panels and then unbolt the dash. It will roll forward onto the top of the tank and you pull the rubber plugs out of the back. Bulbs are under them.

Any idea of the bulb #? I think I have one out, so maybe just change them all if not too expensive.

You can get the 74 bulbs at most auto parts stores. Do all four at one time so you don't have to go there again.
