Leaving Houston early Thursday morning.    I picked up a nail on my fairly new tire about 3 weeks ago and put in a string patch kit.   Still leaking losing from 35 to 17 lbs overnight.   pulled that plug out and tried another.   Still leaking.   Don't have time to take to the shop, anyone tried that slime stuff?  Does it throw your tire out of balance?

If two different plugs have not worked, I would not rely on slime.  You seem to have a serious hole.  I would get it fixed, or replaced.

IMHO

Get the StopNGo Tire plugger..... it uses rubber mushroom plugs that are a bit beefier and durable than those string tar things.    No slime....  but I have heard Ride On is good.   Just try the better plugs first tho.....

Pull it and put a stinger patch from inside. You'll be able to tell if the belts got torn (if so tire is not usable and this is a common cause of string/mushroom leakage) and it is a permanent and safe repair.

Did you use plenty of glue on the string plug or just a little dab?

I have plugged a couple of holes caused by rail road nails.   Them suckers are big and make a nasty hole.

The secret to those string plugs is lots of glue.

the more disgusting your string plug works the better it will work. They're a greasy mess to use. I switched to mushroom plugs which are cleaner, but  I haven't use enough of them to really compare.

Good luck with it.

thanks for all the response.   I'll call the Honda shop when they open tomorrow and ask the service department what I need to do.  Just hate to get a new tire when I've got about 1/2 of the tread still good.....however.......what is your life worth....especially on a trip

Dealerships tend to be fairly anti-plugging. I'm not even sure a dealer will plug a tire for you anymore. Roadside assistance will, but in my experience they don't like to do so on motorcycle tires.

Take it off and boot it.

Other wise you may get to experience catastrophic tire failure.

Not Good.

Bought the I/S from Wild West Honda but H of H is on the way home and they have treated me good. Cycle Shack in Conroe put a stinger patch from the inside for me years back with no problem and ran that tire for a long time. I now run on the darkside....  Evil

If the patch wont fix it, you need a tire.
If a patch fixes it, before a trip where fun is the goal, you need a tire.
Slime is good for schwinn with a proper tube. That stuff is messy. We used to charge extra to clean it. They used to have fix-a-flat that had an explosive propellant. It came with a stick on label to place by the stem so the tech would know how to handle it. Never seen one go though.
If a torture test of paitience and dignity is the goal, ride on.

Discount Motorcycle tire in Pasadena will break it down and put a plug patch in it for about 10 bucks if you bring it in off the bike. I had an Avon repaired there and ran it until it was worn out. Also if they can't fix it they have the best local prices and service on tires I've found in Houston.  713- 477 -7137  I an't kin to nobody there  Smiley
