Well lets just say its a good thing I use the trip meter and look for gas at around 100 miles and make sure by 130 or so Im fueled up!  Today I went out for gas and decided to keep riding until it went on reserve, but carefully choosing my route so Id never be more than a couple miles from a gas station.

So, the dang burned thing just kept on going and going........at 167miles I think it started to sputter, but I was at the last gas station in town so I fueled up.  It took 5 gallons, which is 33.4 mpg (which is usual on this new ethenol)

So, lets just say that was the beginning of reserve and If.....big IF the conditions are right to use every drop in the tank......my book says I have 5.3 capacity.  That means I have .3 gallons left or just over 10 miles range when it goes on reserve.

Now Ive heard tell of people getting more than 5.3 gallons in there so lets just say it would be a wash between how much extra and how much unusable.

10 miles if you dont watch the odometer....if you rely on the reserve.........

Be careful out there......

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I finally put a trip knob on mine after loosing it in 02. Can't wait to use it! I have a non vac pingel and like it. Haven't done my mileage main/ resv talley yet. I know I was getting 100 mpg with 8 mile resv this summer out west pulling trailer. Won't do that this year!  coolsmiley I usually will look for gas around 150 mile marker. Gives me some leway still.
So how much is the resv with the pingle? They say its less then oem but never heard a total.

Willow puts about 5.7 gallons in his bike EVERY TIME we ride on a trip where I would rather not worry about running out of gas.

Go figger.

Today I went on reserve at 132 and rode on reserve to 145. I put in 5.2 gallons. This was start and stop riding, 27.8 mpg.

There may be a difference in the way we fill up; I'm not crazy about having fuel leak through the cap, but I'm happy with the pingel.

Next time you have the tank off, pull the petcock out and solder on a brass piece long enough to match the length of the OEM tube. You just have to measure from the same "reserve" openings in both and cut the tubing accordingly. You can get the tube needed from a hobby shop, they sell different diameter fuel lines for model planes, cars, etc.

Here's what it will look like when done, and when you lay it next to an OEM it's nearly a perfect match in length and my reserve is increased to match. You just can't use the internal filter, have to replace it with an inline which a lot of us are doing anyway. With my I/S tank I seldom run that close anyway, my butt doesn't get the same mileage between tanks as the bike does.  Wink
