Ok, I am not trying to start anything just an observation and basically looking for resolution.
I come on the board, look at the threads and anything I find of interest is usually buried 3 or 4 pages back because of political postings.
Political postings are fine...where they belong. I cant tell you how much time I spend searching for posts because of all of them. Many websites I belong to have a board just for the unrelated political postings we see here. I feel they clutter the board and make it hard to search for postings involving gatherings and riding posts, you know, VALK related postings that we all like to read and enjoy.
This was brought up before, I know. Read the responses... "If you dont like the subject matter, dont read it." Well, It isnt the subject matter that bothers me. Its the AMOUNT of subject matter I oblect to since I cant read the postings I want without sifting through 4 billion posts about how much of a failure our president is or isnt.
My political beliefs have nothing to do with this board. I like to keep it that way. Not saying they shouldnt be posted, just asking if another board could be created so the clutter is somewhere else besides on the general board.
I am not trying to start anything, just looking for a way to make MY visit to the VRCC board more enjoyable and not so time consuming.

I clicked on this thread because the Subject was vague and I have some fence repair to do. If the Subject had been more clear - like most of the political threads - I could have easily skipped it altogether.

Dagg, here is how I do it and it seems to work.
ONCE a week I go to the General, Technical and Texas boards individually. If I post something I click the notify of any reply posts.
The rest of the week there is a little blurp on the 1st page about UNREAD POSTS SINCE LAST VISIT. It has all 3 sections tied together by however you have them to be sorted.

Funny you say that. Sturgis last year was the 69th Annv. Thought there would be cool shirts to buy that year. There wasn't, at least that met our taste. We needed a new sweatshirt this year, one that zipped. We found one that fit our tastes. It was the 70th annv. It said 'Sturgis blah blah Rally 69+1. Theres always room for 1 more'. It had 2 skeletons doing the '69' with another skeleton chic getting ready in the back ground. She got 1 in pink and I in yellow. We get alot of compliments on it.

I concur on how many threads you have to dig through to get to something of actual interest, but if all you're looking for are responses to threads you've posted in, there's a link for that. Each forum "style" is different, mine has it in the top right. There's a pair of links that show up as "Unread/Replies". Unread links to all the threads that have new postings that you haven't viewed. "Replies" links to all the threads in which you have posted, that have new postings that you haven't viewed. If there's a topic which I want to watch, but have nothing to add to, that's when I use the "notify" link that was mentioned. I get emails from the "notify" action, but that's a setting that I believe that you can change for your own account.
This forum is a quite powerful piece of software, and I don't think I use half of the neat tricks it can do.
Now, I have to go try to find the "ignore user X" function! (no, not you!)

Iknow there are many ways around this. I just think that half the fun for me is scrollng thru posts to see what people are up to. but to constantly scroll past threads that really dont belong here(just my opinion) is a bit cumbersome. no worries. Ill find a way around ti i guess. just wanted to point out that imho, its gone over the top and is now a hinderence...

I think what we see on our lead-in page does depend as RJ said on how we set it up. I have only two political posts as far as I can tell on my first page. However I didn't follow all the links to be sure.
I don't mind what anyone posts but I do miss the old layout where all posts could be seen on one page. It's probably just me but it seemed like more of a community then.
I know I sometimes miss posts I might have liked to read but I don't think I can blame it on any one type of post taking up too much room. I think it's more just a lack of patience and internet speed on my part.
Although I spend far less time here than I did before we changed formats it's still a better board layout in my opinion than the ones that are even more compartmentalized. Which is why I only go to the other bike boards I'm a member of once a month or so.
I'll have to try what RJ suggests, maybe that will help.

I see both sides of it. I've been suckered into some political stuff before, but I'm getting "gooder" at staying out of them or not even opening them. There are far more important things to talk about than politics. Nobody is going to change their mind by reading something here anyway. On the other hand..this IS a "general board" which, by it's definition means "stuff in general". So pretty much anything goes....within reason. Some things are just not socially acceptable on a forum like ours. I do agree it's gotten out of hand, but it'll pass. But this board has been here a while. Pretty much everything to be said for a Valkyrie has already been said..though occasionally someone or something new pops up. I like it here. Don't always agree with some of the stuff that shows up,but, except for the Bible, I've never found anything I COMPLETELY agree with. YMMV.

far as I am concerned, 2 things dont belong on a motorcycle message board.....politics and religion. I have my beliefs and opinions as does everyone else, but I feel that those2 subjects "stir the pot" more than any other. There are many things that are valk related. and personal isues such as health and dropping the bike, stupid stuff of the day, daily experieinces, scheduling of events, things that the GROUP have interest in, belong in the general board. the opininated stuff belongs in a spam room with no rules or something likethat. ALL the other boards I belong to have a room for that. the lobby or general board is just that. ok.
Sorry, I voiced my opinion and I guess its just me.(and maybe a few others) no worries.

Don't be sorry bro. There are those of us that think there is not a better place to try to get people interested in politics. THAT'S the problem. Apathy. People don't care. From my participation in them... that's WHY I do it. To motivate involvment. When they turn to feces slinging, I move on. When I can tell that's what they are from the beginning.. I never start. But, IMO, there is NOTHING more important than this right now. We have been getting hosed, over and over for years... and it really is ruining America. (My opinion, and I am entitled to it) The ONLY way to rescue her, is to try to get other, like minded people motivated enough to go to the polls and vote. That's what I am attempting to do when I debate politics on a motorcycle forum. And hunting forums. And Dodge Magnum Forums. et al. Although, I am WAY WAY more active in general on the VRCC than ANYWHERE else. Jabba

LOL! I here the same thing...about the CMA at motorcycle events, and you will always have a small very small amount of people that are so Offended that we are there...It really is no different than here..But like the free market it draws ratings just count the Hits on the political threads..and if you are NOT charging a membership fee, the Sponsors will need to see statistics to want to put their product on a board that has a lot of action,But for those who have not run a small business would not understand this anyway...so Post away enjoy your free speech BTW i have spend over $8000.00 dollars on vendors over the years HERE Thank you VRCC!!!

Oh, I love coming here, reading the ride reports, the mishaps, thestories of people putting diesel in their bikes....lol the sickness and the overcoming of an illness. the enthusiasm of anup coming ride. the grandkids growing or being born. the new bikes, the new cars, the kids driving for the first time.
These are stories that make my visits hee worth while. Not the Obama is a muslim threads.
I like to see the pictues of people on their rides, the bikes they ride, a smal glimpse of how they live their lives. I hold no judgement against anyone for anything....I take one as they are reguardless of what peole say. I do not judge...
and my time here is precious to me, because its MY time. Coming her is a time to relax and smile. reading posts of others rides keeps me inthe wind as much as me actualy riding as far as I am concerned. I ride back and forth to work. seems to be my only riding time anymore. so, the pictures of places peole have been, experiences that they are willing to share with me is a blessing for me. I dont get out much. I go to work, come home. thats it. this economy has pinned me to the wall. So, you see why its important to me and my tiem here.
All I am saying is that, maybe, some sort of spam board or other type of board could be created to serve a purpose that wont interfere with the rest of the board. I joined the vrcc I guess 5 years ago?? and have only made it to 1 ride. which actually wasnt a ride...lol the blue/grey was it. and I didnt even have my pride and joy with me but, I still went to meet people and I was so glad I did. I believe I have found friends that I dont ever want to lose touch with. Thank you VRCC.
Understand the separation now?? One's opinions politically are thiers and thiers alone. yes, they are allowed to voice that publicly. All I am asking is for a place for it, not where it clutters the rest of the board up.
I buy alot from our sponsors too. maybe not 8k$ but, I have bought from them. A good chunk to my purse. so for that too, thank you VRCC. just for giving me the chance to make my bikes better...
...to make my experiences here better. must excuse the typos. I tend to think faster than aican type sometimes.

We gotta remember, what's not liked by some of us is what draws others here. There are many posts here which I'm not interested in. Sometimes they're political, some times they're not. Even if no one reads them (that's not something I've ever seen happen) they don't bother me. If everybody was like me and posted only the things I care about I'd be bored as would everyone else.
By the end of the winter there will be far more complaining about what other people are posting than we have now. It happens every year as we experience cabin fever. That's just how it is.
