i'm on the look out for a new tent. We camp when we go to Sturgis. Usually our tent dont last past the week due to the winds and storms. We been lucky the past 2 years the one we have now has held up. Its a back pack tent and only 7'x8'x4'. With a queen size mattress we have to step outside to dress.  Cheesy What I would like is something larger and taller without being to heavy and large since we ship it. Another window in it would be a plus. Another back pack tent would be great. I dont want to spend alot since it normally will only last the week.  Angry Any leads would be great.

Not heavy and large, but bigger, taller, strong and cheap.

Not gonna happen.

Here's the deal. Cheaper tents are heavier because they use cheaper materials and fiberglass poles which are normally heavier. More expensive 4 season tents for heavy weather are going to generally have aluminum poles and be in the 2-300 dollar range for the same size you have. 7x8x4 isn't a tent that I want to pack in on Alice. For backpacking we are down to tarps and hammocks because of weight.

Get a decent tent like this Coleman. They make decent stuff over the range of cheap to pretty good. I am probably going to buy a Hooligan 3 for my car camping trips, and the son is using a Sundome for tent camping with the scouts with no problems in the weather.
The first thing you should do is set it up in the yard, and hit it with a waterproofing. Unless you are in a hurricane, the tent shouldnt be getting wiped out on a single trip and a storm. Make sure it is right and tight when you set it up, and dryed out when you get home. If you put it away wet, you might as well stick it in the trash. It will stink and rot.

Try Bass Pro Shop, or something along those lines.  I know there are several different names on some, Like Sportsman's and etc.,  and see what they have........    I have heard their tents will stand up in Sturgis.    I don't tent up there, so I don't know as I have a nice FREE bed..  Relation lives in Rapid City.

Make sure it's a Coleman product and not made under licence using the Coleman name. If the company goes bust there goes your warranty. I speak from experience.  Angry

fudgie, take it from a pro. tube tent is all you need. it isnt tal but wide, waterproof adn sets up in 3 minutes. just need a string and 2 logs. plus it packs into a nice little bag. very inexpensive and if you dont care what happens to it. then the 25$ you spend on it will be worth it.

Check the Cabelas catalog, there is one in Rapid City, you could order it shipped to the store and pick it up when you go. They have a wide variety and their store brands are high quality.

I see a bunch set up every year outside the store. I might just stay in one of them lol.
