I can't understand why so many Valkers put off those neglected maintenance chores.

Most are simple and can be done with very few tools and just a little space and time.

For me, changing both front (Cobra) and rear (CT) tires was a necessity. Over 9,000 miles on the front and 33,000 on the rear.
However, after much prodding from Valkpilot and Disco, I was convinced it was time to service the pumpkin. I thought it was a 50,000 mile service project so I was only over by a few thousand miles. But NOo! They said it was supposed to be serviced every 10k!
Oh, well. On with the work at hand.
I decided, as long as I was going to violate the 'old girls' rear-end, I might as well throw on a set of brakes, new metal valve stems and poly propa@#$% something or another dampers.
Removed all necessary goodies (saddlebags, shocks, etc.) to get the rear wheel off. Pulled the pumpkin and drive shaft. Everything looked good inside. No excessive wear on any of the gears. This was an opinion from someone who'd done this type of surgery before . . Valkpilot.
So, after the appropriate lubrication and a few expletives, back together she went. 4.1 ounces of rear-end fluid (or there abouts). Tighten up all the bolts. Ease her down off the jack.
Voila ! ! SHE LIVES . . SHE LIVES!The only thing that didn't look quite right . .
the darkside ? ???
well . . you be the judge
