Which car tire can be used, of any, where no mods of any kind are necessary? I have a stock 98 Tourer. What size, etc?
Thanks.

I believe you can run a 205 55 with no mods. Hankook makes one that size that several CT users like. I am running a 205 60 Good Year Triple Tread, with the nut cage mode.. (real easy to do).
Do a search for car tire posts, you will see a lot of info. There is also a section in the tech articles area about doing this. I believe there is an article there also with car size vs. rpm differences..
I am sure some of the riders with 205 55 or ??? will post with more info also.
Ride Safe..

ghostrider isn telling you right, a 205-55 will go on with no mods, but your rpm will increase. the nut mod is no trouble to do at all.......SIMPLE. either way you will like going darkside. good luck.

My 3rd CT is another 205-60 Goodyear Triple Tread. I did the nutcage removal on my 98 Tourer. I didn't check to see if it was necessary. The clearance between the sidewall and the drive shaft tube is only a credit cards thickness. My 1st CT rubbed there a couple of times and found I was running the tire a little soft.

Maybe we should clarify. From reading, it seems that almost all the time, the 205/50 will not require any mod. The 205/60 might, and the 205/65 will most likely require one.
All CT might rub somewhere else, so you need to inspect. Not all bikes are made exactly alike.
I havn't mounted my CT yet (spare rim), but don't plan on doing anything to my bike until I get the tire under the fender and see if it needs it.
No one has mentioned or asked, once the nut cage mode is done, you no longer have the cage to hold the nut. How do you go about getting the bolt/nut aligned for remounting?

How do you use the bolt after the mod?
Mine, we did the mod, got a carriage bolt long enough to go through the fender from the inside and long enough to get a nut on it and then a acorn nut to cover up the end.

I did my mod when I had my fender off, as part of a whole paint job. I cleaned to bare metal and tack welded the nut to the fender permanently. Good luck. I too use the Goodyear Triple Tread. Great rear braking. I ride in heavy rain sometimes, being in the Northwest region, and I have never felt more secure on the road than with this tire. Last May my wife and I got caught in 3+ inches of slushy snow over a mountain pass leaving Utah for Nevada. A scary few miles for sure, but I was very happy to have that tire beneath us.

Same here. Go with a carriage bolt from the indside to the outside of the fender from the start. You'll have more space and not have to deal with the square nut again. VERY easy to do, especially since you'll be removing the nut cage anyway.

I have a 205/60 Good Year TT, 25,000 +. No mods at all. I do ride two up and still have the original shocks set on 4. She does not bottom out and I have had no rubbing at all. Very little clearance betwen the drive shaft and tire here also, never any rubbing. I run the CT at 35-38 psi.

I have 2 dark side valk. BOTH have the nut-cage mod. Easy. I say do it when you have the fender off. It's ALOT easier that reassembly, then deciding you want it AFTER it's all back together. Just do it when everything is apart. IMO.
I had to get my brother to do it for me... he's a bettur upside down, inside out grinder than me I guess.

If you've made up your mind and your gonna do this thing...Do it right the first time. While your apart, do the nut-cage. Does not take much time and will save you from having to do it again. You MAY get away without it, but why chance it

+1 Tundra.
As long as it is apart, not much work. I went ahead and used the carraige bolt from the inside out. Works great, no worries at all.

I checked out the write up for the nut cage mod, and they didn't use a lag bolt.
What size and lenght would you use? I would think the same diameter as the original bolt. How long? Acorn nut sounds good for a cap.

I think we used a stainless 5/16" on mine since the local Mendards didn't have the metric size in a long enough bolt. If I remember right, we used 4" bolts and I cut a bit off after getting everything together. It works great!
