Need help with front tire, I went to ride this morning and it was completly flat. I thought I was going to be able to go a little longer on it, but I guess not.
I have heard a lot of talk about a car tire on the front, and want to know your opinion on the subject. I am currently running the darkside on the rear and I love it. The tire on the rear is a 205/60R 16 General altimax. Any input would be great Smiley
Thanks, Beast

I normally don't chime in on car tire posts because everyone is passionate about the subject. My thoughts are this: if you want to die young, put a car tire on the front. Motorcycles are designed to handle with a certain size and profile tire so it works right while leaned over. Car tires change that drastically. Also the rubber compound is very important. MC tires wear out sooner because the rubber has more stiction (is that a word?) but stickier tires wear out faster. Good luck on your choice. I'll keep quiet now.

i think what you might have been hearing about is running a rear bike tire on the front, most of the time in reverse

such as a kenda  150/70-17  some like it some don't, similar controversy as a rear car tire

i would say that if you had a trike a car tire might be a possibility but most run a bias ply rear bike tire in reverse on the front also

the only trike i have seen a car tire on the front is made by Eurowing, its not just a simple conversion of swapping the tires either most of the rake has to be removed or else the tire is very hard to steer

hope this helps

MY 2 CENTS--------put a Kenda on the front and do not turn it around backwards, lots of tread on it so it will run a long time--------

Anything is better than a tire that won't hold air.

Car tire on the front would work.

If you can find one that will fit in under that tightly wound fender.

Car tire on a bike , who would have thunk it.

After doing a little research I understand about putting a rear tire on the front. I am really leaning toward this idea. Thanks for the input so far, what about the a rear tire on the front? How many are running this way and do you like it. I hear it's better with more contact to the road and deeper tread means more miles.

Back when the Gold Wing was a spring chicken and had that teeny tiny front tire, several of us in the GW Club in California put rear bike tires on the front with the arrow in reverse.   There were several riders in there then, they weren't poser's.

I talked the main guy in the CHP shop to put a rear tire on the front of my motor.

It worked real good, and we ended up with about a third of them rear tires on the front.     I don't remember the size but i do know they were Good Year tires.  Yes, Good Year used to make bike tires, right along with Firestone.

They went to the Kawasaki's and and a new shop manager, so they ended that policy real quick.   Got a new guy in the shop and he had an attitude............  What ever he said his relation (Chief of the Patrol) went along with.    If this jerk would have told him to run screws in our tires for traction, they would have all been converted over within a week.

Why not run car all season or snow tires at both ends? Muddy, rocky, and snowy roads coulfd be better negotiated. cooldude

Got the tire back on eailier this afternoon and took it for a short ride. So far I like the way it feels in fact, it rides smooth as glass. Like everyone knows, the tread is much deeper so I hope I'll get a lot more miles than a regular front tire. I put a Dunlop 404 130/70 on and I think it looks great.  Now my bike has the full darkside package. Cheesy
