Has your fat lady been " popping off " when you down shift at slow speeds? tickedoff My 2000 Standard had a slight back fire. I thought the worst. Evil Could it need to be de-smogged? Embarrassed Maybe I should replace the intake O rings. I know, I'll replace the vacuum lines! HMMMM, but it only has 14000 miles on it. ??? I don't want to start a big fix if it ain't broke. Let me think about this.  Undecided Then it hit me , " why not tighten down the carb insulators at the intakes ",  uglystupid2 I had a light bulb moment. Duh... there sure can be a vacuum leak there! Well I'm happy to say that I tightened the screws and no more popping on deceleration Smiley. I'm a new owner since Dec. 09 and have enjoyed all the help you all give so freely. angel I haven't had  much to contribute yet, and maybe you all knew this already, but ,I hope my Duh moment will help someone else try the easy fix first.

I suspect those clamps working loose are responsible for a lot of popping and less than smooth running.
They seem to reloosen sooner than they should. I've been planning to put a drop of blue locktight on them during my winter maintenance.

Glad it worked....however, just to say to others that dont know....there are 18 of those screws.  The lower 6 are the only ones some tighten.  under the choke linkage (remove chrome strip) there are six more.  The upper six, you have to move the tank to get to but those dont seem to loosen up like th lower 12

mine started popping this week...........so I tightened the 12 screws you can get to without moving the tank......smooth again, its amazing how loose them things get in just 40 or 50K miles
