Four wheels move the body, 2 wheels move the soul

Van, Texas

« on: October 07, 2010, 03:54:35 PM »

Since this is the first winter that I will have my Valk, are these babies cold natured.  The last few mornings, since it has been in the upper 40, it seems to run rough for about 5 to 6 minutes then it runs fine.  Is this normal?  I seem to be getting a lot of popping when decelerating.  Thanks in advance for the info.

Not sure about others, but mine sure is!  I give it full "choke" (actually fuel enrichment, the way I understand it) to start, and for the first 30 seconds or so.  Then go to 1/2 - 2/3 for another couple of minutes, depending on the ambient temp.  She smooths right out after that!  What a great machine!  ;-)

At 40 degrees, full choke, starts, idles at 1500 RPM.
Within a 30 seconds I start easing the choke off as the bike warms a little.
Within a minute choke off, idle will be a little low but stable.
Idle will pick up as it warms.

I usually go ahead and ride away easily.

My first winter (what there is of it down here) with the Valk also. But, been riding to work the last few weeks of cool weather, mid-40's in the morn, & I find the Valk actually does better on choke than the 1500 wings I've had. Let her warm up a few minutes @ around 1000 rpm, kick the choke back to near off, then the slow ride  two miles to the freeway. Then, she's ready to romp.

I start mine with full choke and zero throttle. I don't start it until I mount up, then I just drive off with full choke on. I shut it all the way off about 30 seconds down the road. cooldude

Keepinon, we need to get together. Full choke as soon as the rpms come up to about 2000 back off choke and drive. Usually only about a minute or less.

MrB, I'd like nothing better!

My office is off Wilson Rd in Humble, live off 1485 w of New Caney. I'll pm you my numbers.

So many bike related things I want to do, hell even intend to do... work just keeps getting in the way. I sell parts & consult for these nasty old drilling rigs around the country. Feels like I should make the $ while the current POS I mean Pres allows us oilfield trash to work. The last month, I've been to rigs near Pecos, Shreveport, Daisy OK, and last weekend Hanna, Wy. But I want everything bike related ready to go.
