One of favorite bar in Sturgis. Valkhound, looks like we were a few million shy.
STURGIS - The $9.2 million offer for One-Eyed Jack's Saloon, a multi-million-dollar Sturgis rally hotspot, apparently is not enough.
The owners of One-Eyed Jack's rejected Wednesday's high bid of $9.2 million from local campground owner Matt Bruer and a syndicate of investors.
Bruer said Friday that the owners wanted an even $10 million for the property and neither side would budge.
"Everybody has their own values on everything. It was not announced what the minimum would be, and it was not an absolute auction," Bruer said.
One-Eyed Jack's founder Ray Gold and his son Peter Gold, and auctioneer Martin Jurisch could not be reached for comment.
The 45,000-square-foot-property includes 80 cash registers, about 800 bar stools, a Sturgis liquor license and an exotic performer license that was grandfathered in after state statutes changed in 2008. "This is the Taj Mahal of Sturgis," Jurisch said at the auction.
Sturgis police chief Jim Bush said there are seven exotic performer licenses in Sturgis, all held by Main Street businesses. The license will stay with the business, Bush said. But attorney Dale Hansen, who is handling the liquor license transfer, said he does not have the details on whether the exotic performer license can be transferred.
Transfer of the liquor license is a routine process but will require a background check on the new owner.
Bruer's 4.5-acre campground has been listed for sale at $1.75 million since February.
