New member.  Respect to everyone here.  I've just begun scouring this board for information due to my finally purchasing a Valkyrie.  I saw a Valk for the first time at the Hollister bike rally ten years ago.  It made an immediate impression as it was distinctive in its own right.  Here on the west coast, everybody and their dentist owns a HD, so despite admiring the company for what its accomplished, I had no desire to join the horde.  At that time I was still in the sport bike phase, track days, etc.  However, I knew that when it came time to grow up and slow down, the Valkyrie would be the bike.  Well, its that time.  I bought a 2001 Standard on ebay.  I pick it up next weekend.  It has less than 9,000 miles on it, nice custom red paint and some touring accessories.  Based on what I have already read here I am planning on running Seafoam right away.  I'm taking a bottle with me when I pick it up.  Also, I am going to replace the stock petcock with a Pingel.  Thanks for all those who have taken the time to post problems and solutions, advice and encouragement here.  I can't imagine getting a bike like the Valkyrie without having a solid online support group.  Hope to see some of you on the road...

Welome to VRCC. I like your statement; and their dentist.  Grin There is a LOT of info on the forum about bike maint. and care. I would say that some is "over kill". Buy a SHOP manual and read . Once in a while "over kill" makes me happy.  Roll Eyes
Enjoy your Valk. I do mine.

Welcome aboard from another new Valk owner.

The Valk is magical.  When I ride my 1300 trike, no one will even acknowledge it.  When I hop on the Valk, other bikers turn their head Linda Blair style as I ride by.  I've even had Wild Hogs on their Milwaukee made shakers wave at me like a bunch of little school girls.

Best advice I know of:  First time you goose it, make sure you're hanging on!   cooldude

Thanks for the welcome!  Anyone have an idea as to the source of the aftermarket exhaust?  I haven't heard the bike yet.  Hope it doesn't scare the neighbors.  Frankly, some of them scare me...but that's another story.

Welcome from northeast Pa.  The valk is a magical ride for me anyway.  I am always amazed on how it handles the twisty  and is comfortable on the  highway.  Good luck with your new to you ride. cooldude

Welcome to the Club. The exhaust on your new bike is a Viking system. Similiar to the popular Cobra 6 into 6 that I use. You will love the sound, espescially when you pull out the baffles for a Saturday night ride cooldude

Welcome Croaker,
I'm also new to the VRCC a couple of months back. Bought mine a couple of days before Inzane X in July. You are gonna love your ride, I know I do. Take it whenever you can. Here in Wisconsin the riding season is short. We have been lucky that the last week or so highs have been in the mid 70's.

Enjoy your ride,

You got the purtyest pipes available, and they are not available anymore.  If they are too loud for your taste, you will have no trouble selling them.  Only bad thing is they preclude the use of hard bags.  Gorgeous machine.   cooldude  cooldude  Hoser

Your exhaust is not Viking. It is if I remember
call Kicker exhaust. Was not made for long at all.
Did not sell well  because it got in the way of the bags.

I bought my Valk after I hit a car at 70 MPH, because it's the right thing to do, you know get back on a bike and all!!!  uglystupid2 LOL!!! It was the most fun, When the people didn't know what is was and they foolishly thought it was JUST another slow cruiser!!!  2funny I am not little person, so they thought easy pickens!! LOL!!! More the one sport bike rider got an education!! Grin Cheesy cooldude Along with quite a few would be drag racers. When I was done they had to drag it back to the barn, The Valk just don't QUIT!! Cool

My condolences.  After buying my valkyrie, nearly everything in my life has slowly fallen apart.  Had I known then, what I know now, I just might reconsider buying the damn thing.

First off, my wife instantly became jelouse with the fat girl.  She said that I was having an affair.  Well, considering the fact that I use to call out “OH GOD YES!!  VAL, THAT’S IT BABY, FASTER GIRL FASTER!!!” while my wife and I made love.  She didn’t understand the excitement a machine could bring.  That stopped soon after the sex thing.  Although I still get really excited when I’m on the road……

Second was the wood shed.  Haven’t played with any woodworking tools in over two years.  My wood lathe is starting to take up too much space in my shop, and I have seen others sold on ebay for nearly $1400.  You can buy a ton of chrome for that much money…….

Third, the paycheck.  Thankfully I have direct deposit from work that goes directly into my checking account, I was smart along time ago and got my own checking account separate from the wife’s, the bad thing is that once you set up a paypal account and it’s linked with the checking account, it makes buying things way too easy!!  And the good thing, she only finds out when the package gets delivered.  It’s always easy to ask for forgiveness then to ask for permission.

Fourth.  I’m pretty sure my oldest daughter still lives at home.  Not quite sure though, haven’t seen her in a while, but we have had a good stretch of beautiful sunny riding weather!!

Fifth thing is the truck.  I’ve noticed some birds flying out of my grill the other day.  Seems there’s quite a big nest in there.  Might have to be careful when I start it up this winter.

Sixth, you’ll start doing things at work that are geared towards your bike.  In my line of work, I’ve made quite a few items for my cycle.  Thankfully my boss has a cycle also, so he understands the importance of customization.

Seventh, you’ll start hanging pictures of it at work, and you’ll notice that if you have a digital camera you’ll be taking a lot more pictures with it, but they’ll all be of your bike!!  I can’t remember the last time I took pictures of the kids??

Eighth.  You’ll get new friends.  Forget about those good old high school buddies, that is, unless they have a Valkyrie!!  Harley’s don’t count, unless they’ve got a flat six strapped to the engine!!

Ninth, oh the dreaded speeding ticket!!  Hadn’t gotten one in over 25 years with the car, van, or truck!!

And tenth.  You’ll find yourself looking for a new job, something further away from home, that way you’ll be able to spend more time behind the handlebars!!

Dag, Thanks for clearing up the pipe question.  They are a beautiful design, but if they are basically straight pipes I probably won't keep them.  I just sold my customized Triumph Bonneville mostly because we moved into a quiet neighborhood with grannies and sensitive types.  Won't know for sure until I hear for myself.

Dubsvalk, congrats!  I don't know about you, but I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.
