I must say I was scanning channels one evening and came upon these women (and guys) on PBS (which I rarely watch) and I was stunned by the beauty, talent and overall production (especially the last song) in which these woman (and associates) performed.    Very talented and attractive young people....  and I kinda liked the music too.

That is good stuff.  I have watched that on PBS as well.  They need a little banjo in there and then they would have something.   Smiley

Been a fan for a few years now. Here's their forum.

I was told that a fiddle has a more curved bridge so that you can play one string at a time where a violin has a flatter bridge so that you can hit multiple strings and produce harmonics chords.

My understanding is that fiddles are only found in the deep south where the color of grass is Blue.  The rest of the world has violins.

One of my favorites that is comparable to the Celtic Women: Vanessa Mae.

And here is one of those little-known  cooldude country boy fiddle players:

Thanks for sharing.  I'd never heard of that guy before.  I'll have to check out some more of his music.

Glad ya liked that.  Jim can certainly saw that thang.

He has some work out on his own in an album called "No Apologies" and he plays with "Mountain Heart" and has done some great work with them.

Here's him with Mountain Heart
Jim gets a great intro into this first one.

I like most of the celtic women stuff but sometimes its almost too polished. This is more traditional (Karen Matheson of Capercaille and Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh of Altan).  There's some fiddle playing in the middle.
