OK, I did a des-mog, installed an electric fuel valve, reset the needles to the second slot from the top, flushed the tank, replaced the petcock vacuum line and installed a new to me stock exhaust system. After crossing my fingers when I went to start it she fired right up. Here's the problem, I now have a loud tick on the right side. I never heard the sound before this although I did have supertrapps that were kind of loud but not that loud. Could a tick be an exhaust leak? I don't think it's valves because I never heard it before. I did not install new gaskets yet, I'm waiting on them. Any thoughts?

Yea it very well could be an exhaust gasket leak. Try rehanging the right side exhaust while shoring the headers evenly and flush to the gaskets.

I had a loud ticking after I de-smogged, it ws the air - input that I had sealed under the exhaust.   When they leak you will get the loud ticking.  Had to take it back off and put a new gasket in.

Also did you replace the gaskets on the exhuast?  This should be done everytime the exhaust is taken off and reinstalled.  Torque the exhaust header bolts to 7 foot lbs.

Good luck.

I will remove the exhaust and reseal the air input while the exhaust is off, tonight. If that doesn't do it the I will check the valves.
Thanks!

I had the same problem when I did those maintenance mods. I agree with DFragn and Valk2128. Did you replace your gaskets? Torque 7lbs, start from middle work your way out. Mine sounded pretty bad, mechanical. It was just an exhaust leak. Good luck cooldude

Don't forget about the intake O-rings, cheap and easy to replace. How do I know?...............
