gittin her done!

I am repainting the Beast and trying to remove the plastic panel where the seat lock is located.  It appears there is a sensor attached and I see how to remove that, but the mechanism behind the lock is giving me fits  tickedoff.  It is a 97 Tourer.

Any suggestions on how to get the cable off?  Am I just brain dead?  I don't want to break anything if I can help it.
Thanks.

BTW, once this is out is there any maintenance I might do tot he seat lock assembly to make it work better while I'm at it?

you just have to pull the clip off that is inside.  it simply slides off thereby allowing the lock to be removed

thanks, I did get that black clip off, no problem.  But the lock is held in with the seat lock cable.  Do I just pry the cable off the white plastic thing holding it?

Also, the manuel says to disonecet the bank - angle sensor 3 in white electrical connector.  Okay, so I exposed it, and can't seem to see how it comes apart.    I don't want to pull on it too hard and pull the wires loose.  It almost seems like a single piece but I know it comes apart somehow.

check a parts fiche, sometimes the exploded picture will give you an insight to nuts, bolts and other connectors to undo

Refer to this fische: http://www.hdlparts.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=148817&category=MOTORCYCLES&make=HONDA&year=1998&fveh=3477

Once you pull the sliding clip that holds the lock in place (part #1), you can push the lock out and rotate it so that the cable slips easily out of its stay.

Refer to this fische: http://www.hdlparts.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=148830&category=MOTORCYCLES&make=HONDA&year=1998&fveh=3477

I find that once this is done, it is easier to unscrew the bank angle sensor (part #8) from the center panel rather than unclip the connector.  Just don't reinstall it upside down!

Thanks guys - got it out!  Funny how simple looking things can thow me a loop.  No wonder mechanics make the big bucks  Wink

Having this board gives me courage to do things I might not try; So far got new rear tire (Avon Venom),  bel-ray in splines and new O rings (including elusive 3rd ring, new rear brakes, new plugs and wires, progressive rear shocks, Rivco air horn, velocity stacks in place.   Next comes 3 motosens guages, Interstate tank as well as belly tank, PIAA added lights, Ultimate seats, carb cleaning and sync (I'm having a mechanic do this one)and New paint (Black ...with graphics, of course)  so far.... so good!

I'll post pics when I'm done.  Got all winter here in Alaska.
