We plan on rollin' out thursday morning November 11 with historic Savannah,Georgia on our mind. We will more than likely be staying on Jekyll Island while exploring the area.Anyone wanting to hook-up can do so in Knoxville, Tennessee on thursday morning 11-11-10. We will be staying off the super slab as much as possible on the way southbound and will be ridin' through the Tennessee / North Carolina / South Carolina mountains on the way ( weather permitting ) . We should get close to Savannah thursday night with the detour through the scenic route taking more time than just hitting the big road and rollin'.( If anyone has a suggestion on motels please reply keep in mind I'd like to stay at a motel that I can park at my door and be ocean front as well ) . Sunday morning November 14 we'll head for home...Bring It...LET'S RIDE

Very cool destination We did that a couple of years back. The brick road along the waterfront of the historic downtown has some cool little shops, leather places, bike places and good food. One block South of there, in the courtyard is a GREAT pizza joint. REALLY good pizza and frozen mug draft beer Be sure to check out the Fort on Tybee Island while your there. Self guided, lot's of history. Also self guided tour of the lighthouse and grounds on Tybee Island. Sounds like a great trip, wish I could make it

This will be a great ride, doubtful that I can get the time off though. If you guys make it to downtown historic Savannah, there are lots of good places to eat. The best hamburger and the best draft beer in town can be found at The Distillery: http://www.distillerysavannah.com/The best ice cream I have ever eaten (the pistachio is awesome) can be found at Leopolds: http://www.leopoldsicecream.com/index.htmlOoops, almost forgot to mention some of the BBQ I have ever eaten is Blowin Smoke BBQ: http://www.blowinsmokebbq.com/

( I like a motel that I can park at my door and since I'm at the ocean I want to be " on the ocean " ) I was thinking Jekyll Island just because it sounds cool What about Tybee Island ? Any motels ? As you can tell I just dreamed this ride up with little to no research I've not even looked at a map yet....I'll get my s**t together and dig for info before we roll however if you or anyone else has a suggestion I'd like to hear about it

This might be a good option http://www.budgetinnsavannah.com/ Copied this from the website: The Budget Inn is the perfect choice whether you are in Savannah for business or pleasure. The Budget Inn is conveniently located just moments from everything that the historically rich city of downtown Savannah, Georgia has to offer. We are located near 516 and HWY 17 - close to I-16. Additional nearby attractions include Restaurants, Museums and Shopping. Our nicely appointed guest rooms include microwave and refrigerator, Cable TV with free HBO, free local telephone calls and lots more. To keep you connected, our hotel features high-speed wireless Internet access throughout. Plenty of free parking is available and for your added comfort, security and convenience, you can park right in front of the door to your guestroom. I can call later to find out a price if you are interested.

Thanks Donna for taking the time to look this up ...I don't think we'll have very many on this ride ( 3 ) confirmed right now .I'm guessin' we'll just roll into town and check a few places out without doing the " reservation " deal.

Joe, Sorry for the late response. Just got in from riding. I am pooling my Tybee resources and will get back to you as soon as I can get accurate names and information for you. We stayed in Comfort Inn, in the Historic downtown and used the parking garage. (dumped my bike today) All is well, a few minor scratches on my bag. It felt like a death in the family though, just sickened me.

Joe, Kind of difficult to recommend for someone else, but theres plenty of choices from a clean bed and a hot shower, to fancy. These are from my recollector on Tybee Island. The ones you can ride right up to the door are Royal Palms with a horseshoe shaped drive. Pool in the center, nothing fancy. Clean and inexpensive. Right next door to this is the Roadway Inn. If your on the bottom floor you can drive right up to the door here also. Then a real nice place is the Ocean Plaza with a bar and restaurant on the third floor looking over the ocean, good view. This is a four or five star rated place. You can always stay elsewhere and come here for the view? Places to eat? Many locals ride to the Marina and eat to get away from the tourists. Sandra Bullock used to hang out there. The Crab-Shack is popular with the tourists. Some good Bar food places...some of the best and popular with the locals. Cafe Loco, Northside bar & grill, then ther's Doc's bar, been there since 1948. Make sure you get a photo of an inbound freighter. Best shot will be in the historic downtown area on the river. You can park on the brick road right along the river. When these freighters pass under the bridge (the one you will have crossed coming in) It's an illusion, it looks like they tower over the bridge and will take it out. These things are just huge, when they leave they are much taller in the water (as this great Nation seems to do very little in exporting anymore) Safe winds and many photo's PS Got any extra bubble wrap?

As of now we " may " have ( 5 ) Valkyrie's makin' " The Ride To The Sea " with ( 3 ) confimed and ( 2 ) more hoping they can join the ride.Staying on Tybee Island is looking better all the time with the research I've done however we do not plan on making reservations and will deal with lodging when we roll into Savannah , Georgia area. One of my favorite pass rides is when we did " The Dead Rocker Ride " several years ago on this same weekend (Veterans Day Weekend ) to Georgia and Florida with stops in Macon,Ga to see the grave's of Duane Allman, Barry Oakley both killed while riding a motorcycle ( Allan Brothers Band ) and Jacksonville , Fl to see Ronnie Van Zant ( Lynyrd Skynyrd ). We had no special plans we had no reservations we even took a detour to tour the Okefenokee Swamp.

Joe, we did the Savannah bike trip from the south totally avoiding the superslabs. Nice little ride from here. As far as staying on the ocean you will have to stay on Tybee. Be real careful riding on the cobblestone roads they are treacherous! Eating at the Crab Shack is a Tybee must. Plenty of good seafood in a down home unique atmosphere. View while dining. "Parking lot" of the Crab Shack. There was a Hilton with a parking garage on the western end of the riverfront that looked pretty neat but I didn't see anything else on the riverfront, but I wasn't looking either. There were lots of motels on the ocean in Tybee but we chose to stay out by the airport & ride into town. Great place to visit. Lots of Southern history in Savannah!

Joe, If I come I would meet upwith you guys Saturday morning. Did a search and the Howard johnson Inn Tybee Island is right across from the beach. Rate is $69.95 for 2 Queen beds and travelocity seems to give it good ratings. The Roadway Inn is $75 plus tax and not rated as good.
I'll probably make a reservation there because I won't be leaving Toyota till late in the afternoon and I'll night ride down to meet up with you. Who knows my new boss might acually let me leave early (I doubt but it doesn't hurt to ask).
So I hope to catch up with you all on Saturday morning.

Mike Marshall ( hubcap ) will take the lead as we cross into South Carolina and backroad us from there to Savannah if everything works in his favor at work . You're only here one time my friend and if you want to go ...You should Do what I did at work I did'nt ask for permission I just informed them of my plans Bring It....LET'S RIDE

Joe,
Considering that I have informed my upper management to go F themselves because of the missed promotion I was trying for, so maybe on Tuesday they will inform me that I no longer be working for them. Then it's a moot point and I can ride whenever I want.
But, If I leave on Friday afternoon then I at least have a bed at a place that has 24 hr check-in.

A couple riders are ridin' into Knoxville on wednesday 11-10 I can have them stay at the Super 8 Motel you like to stay at and I'm sure with that motel right on I-40 / I-75 they will have someone there to check you in 24 hours a day....Just sayin' if you can make wednesday 11-10 that would be great and you would get to ride the best part of the ride " the mountains " .Stay in touch we have a mutual friend ridin' up from Mississippi it's possible y'all could ride into K-Town together.

Joe, I can't tell you where to stay or where to eat in Savannah. But I can tell you there is a nice parking garage on Bryan Street...I worked on the structural design for the precast concrete. We even won an award from the Precast Concrete Institute (PCI)!

Or better yet ride down to Knoxville,Tennessee on the 10th to join us and you can see it in person

Joe,
Considering that I have informed my upper management to go F themselves because of the missed promotion I was trying for, so maybe on Tuesday they will inform me that I no longer be working for them.

Got any news yet Charlie ? Our friend said he could hook-up and ride to Tennessee with you if you paln to come.Give me a call Just added Paul ( Thumper ) to the list of those makin' the ride out of Knoxville thursday 11-11...Bring It...LET'S RIDE
