I'd rather be lost in the wilderness than found in Detroit!

Utah was a good guess. Can you narrow it down a little?

I was going to say Bryce Canyon, but I've been there and it's not there. I've also been to Zion, and that's not it either.

I am going to guess Canyonland, even though I have not been there but have read descriptions of it. ???

I think Tempest Williams and Edward Abbey would approve.

None of the above. But keep guessing, this is kind of fun.

(Now I have to google "Tempest Williams" and "Edward Abbey"

Thanks a lot... grumble grumble...)

It wasn't Florida... close though. I'd like to see some of the pictures of country like this in FL...

Utah, yes, but not northeast and not canyonlands.

Keep guessing.

I'm in Ogden this weekend. When I get home I'll post a couple more pictures as hints.

Abbey was a PA boy that fell in love with the west. He became a part-time park ranger and life long lover of the out doors. He was also an author and composition teacher.

Williams was also a writer and lover of the outdoors in Utah.

Pat and Ruth were visiting us. We were north of Capitol Reef, which makes it north and east of Zion.

The lake is Joe's Valley Reservoir. It's at an altitude of around 8000 feet. Another 45 minutes or so puts you at 10,000 feet. The other pictures are of the San Rafael desert (around the San Rafael Swell), east of my house about 45 minutes. The high peak is Window Blind Peak, the largest free-standing monolith in north America -- larger than Devil's Tower, Wyoming. The river is the San Rafael River, born at the confluence of Huntington Creek, Cottonwood Creek and Ferron Creek.

The pictures were taken about 30-50 miles north of I-70.

Every pic that I posted is within an hour of my house. I live in an awesome place! I'll post a couple more good pic's when I get home tomorrow.
