I have a friend that has a black Valkyrie Interstate (not sure what year it is), that will sell it to me for $5,000.00. Here's what I know about the bike. At around 84,000 miles the bike suffered the dreaded hydrolock condition. My friend always takes his bike to the Honda dealer to have it worked on. The dealer told him what had broken and what it would cost to have it repaired. My friend told him that since you have it all apart, go ahead and rebuild the engine. The mechanic told him that the engine did not need a rebuild. My friend told him that he wanted it rebuilt because it had 84,000 mile on it. So the Honda mechanic rebuilt the engine. He has about 5,000 miles on the bike since the rebuild. My friend just recently bought a Harley Davidson for himself and one for his wife. He told me that he has all the paperwork from Honda on the rebuild of the engine and he doesn't need 3 bikes. He will sell me the Valkyrie Interstate for $5,000.00. The bike is stock and has never been down. What do you guys think? Deal.....or........No deal?

It also couldn't hurt to talk to the service manager & mechanic at the dealer where he had the work done .... see what they thin.

that bike needs to be ridden! give it a good home. keep an eye one it. A mechanic mucking around rebuilding what doesn't need to be rebuilt could cause more probelms than it fixed. But if he's good it shouldn't have hurt anything. 'rebuilt' is a subjective term anyway. Check the reciepts. Buy it. If you decide its not worth it to you, you can easily sell a 5grand interstate and break even or come out better. Buy.

For that price who cares, it would be worth it just to double your money parting it out, even if it didn't run. Many folks here have 4 times that in their Interstates. If it's an Interstate that has been rebuilt and can be verified, in any condition it's worth it. (too me) I would like to be 3rd in line! Got pics?

Reason....if the engine is of questionable service because of some ham-fisted mechanic, you can buy good used engines with much less on them than 84k and usually for a very modest price compared to paying to have it rebuilt. I've seen engines on ebay with 35-40k on them go for under $2k, then you could part out the old engine and get a good share of your cost back. I wouldn't hesitate.

I think I would be 5th in line. At that price I would certainly take a chance. Jim

See if the cause of the hydrolock was remedied. If it did it once, it'll do it again, unless you fix the carbs and the petcock.
