Sounds like a take your time type of ride.  How many days you planning, that would help all the south Texas persons give you some pointers.

Here is a website that lists motorcycle friendly hotels/inns.

From Houston, take the highway to Austin and on West through Fredricksburg to I-10. It won't save much time but it won't be as boring as interstates.

Thank you, I plan to take the time to do back roads so adding 2 days to the trip to ride across Texas is fine by me. I did order a guide from Texas Tourism also

Great advice!  If you go through Fredericksburg your about 10 miles away from the infamous Luchenbach, Tx.  Give yourselve about another, oh... maybe 10-15 minutes to explore the town. There's only a couple of buildings there but really great riding roads around that area.  Just went to a bike rally (Classic Harvest) this past w/e.

April will be a great time of year for traveling, weather is great and all the countrysides are starting to green up!

A famous Texas Hill Country Tour starts in Kerrville, Tx on I-10.   From Kerrville head SW on hyway 16 to Medina, Tx.   In Medina turn right on Hyway 337 to Vanderpol, Tx stay on 337 to Leakey, Tx stay on 337 to Campwood, Tx.   Outside of Campwood take Hyway 55 to Barksdale, Tx.   Just past Barksdale turn right on Hyway 335 to Vance, Tx, then Hackberry, Tx and all the way to Hwy 41.   Turn right on Hwy 41 to Hwy 83.  Turn right on Hwy 83 towards Leakey, Tx.   Before Leaqkey turn left on Hwy 39 to Hunt Tx.   Stay on Hwy 39 to Ingram Tx.   In Ingram turn right on Hyway27 back to Kerrville.

That is a very remote ride, beautifull Texas Scenery, gas often.   One of Texas most famous rides.  Starts in Kerrville and ends in Kerrville, about 300 mile ride.   Then you are back on I-10.

Then if you got time an even better Texas ride is in Big Bend National Park.   Ride I-10 to Fort Stockton Texas and turn south to Big Bend National Park.    Do a tour of Big Bend Park, the park is 40 miles deep and about 80 miles wide.   Be sure to go up into the Basin.....and also if you go there you just have to ride to St Elena Canyon.....very scenic ....best ride in Texas.....my very favorite part of Texas......We go there every 2 yrs......you won't regret it.

If you go to Big Bend look at the Big Bend Motel in Terlingua, Texas.   May be in Studde Butte, Texas......the two towns  are connected.   gas often

No question the areas described are worth checking out!  If you find yourself trending northwest, the Palo Duro Canyon is SPECTACULAR!  Maybe worth catching on the way home.
Also, I think you'll find the people here in Texas are first rate too!  ;-)
