hey guys looking for a little help at little to no cost to you. i'm involved with a group a vets as well as sons ,daughters, wives and husbands of veterans. the purpose is to help families of deceased veterans who cannot afford to bury their veterans. i'm looking to purchase plans to build a hitch so we can mount large flags on the back of my valkyrie for funerals. i'd even be happy to purchase an old hitch that is twisted, rusted etc. the idea is to carry two full sized flags for the funerals at a reasonable price. i can build one or repair a screwed up one. any help would be appreciated.  please see the link for the website:

thank you for any parts or plans you might have laying around! Tank, American Legion Post 142 Riders.

Photos provided, links under photos (if any) are where you can get more info on the Rivco Product.  I am sure that once you see the photos, you could fabricate something similar easily enuff....

drawings are almost identical to my home made hitch.

the guy that made it put a "crease" up the middle of the long piece to strengthen it.

works great.

Mine rests on the package rack and bolts to the sissybar mounts. I fly three flags 3X5. I've been on the freeway and nothing fell off. My main bar is 1/2 inch steel bar stoch bent into a "U" ans has mounts welded to it for the bolts. The flag stubs are 3/4 inch and slip inside heavy duty electric conduit from the major house barn store.  I had it made for $50.00. I told the gent I ride PGR and what I wanted. You'll notice the drag right away. Its cool.

I (and I bet others) might be interested in seeing pictures of that set up.... can you share some pics?

Hey those are drawings of the first hitch I built years ago. It is amazing that they're still floating arround. I've made several changes to the hitch since.  Orginal one worked ok but was a little too tight to the lower edge of the fender and hard to remove center section to change rear tire.

I can't tell you where I got those drawing pics... but it was somewhere out in Valkyrie Cyberspace and I saved it for future use.  If you have a better drawing pic or diagram of the new improved hitch.... you could always share them with the rest of the gang.   cooldude

I HAVE to ask...3 FOOT by 4 FOOT, 1/4" plate? On a bike??? 10.2 lbs per square foot. So, 3 foot by 4 foot would be 122.4 pounds...but the worst would be, where would you carry it? Do you have a trailer? Oh yeah, you're trying to make a hitch, counts that out...

Take the wife along, to carry it on the back seat?

Sorry, but the visual struck me dumb...

PAVALKER, I made a similar arrangement for my Vulcan.  Cant you tell me if your setup mounts inside the fender or on the outside?
Thanks! Bernie

Oh... that is not my design, as I indicated I copied and saved it from some Valkyrie Cyberspace place and thought it useful for future reference and saved it to provide to others.  That does look like my hitch (a HitchDoc) which is mounted outside the fender as that one in the diagram would be as well.

Brad - Pavalker made a post in this other thread - as an alternative to a hitch that's outside the fender. Don't know if you have a tourer/Interstate, but if you do, this shouldn't be TOO hard to fabricate, and should be more than strong enough, if you only intend to use it as a flag holder. I'm sure it's strong enough for a trailer, but personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable with it. But, I've always leaned towards over-kill!

Take a look. I would think just a 1/4" plate would work fine, for a flag holder. Make sure you make the supports shown for the fender bolts. But those would be almost the only "visible", but well-hidden by the bags. As for strength, i don't think the tube holds the weight so much, as holds it in place - the supports are what will be taking all the forces of pulling a trailer. The clamps look like they serve double - to hold the hitch in the tubes, as well as hold the supports - probably the hardest piece to duplicate, but, do-able.

Tank, I saw a few pics of a simpler hitch, that I decided against, as it didn't look strong, in my opinion (did I mention my bent towards "overkill"), but would have been plenty for a flag or two. I'll see if I can find them, and post.

Do you have a standard, tourer, or I/S? I have mine all apart, doing mods etc, for going to the darkside. I'll take a good look and measurements, to see if I can come up with something specific to a flag standard. I'm sure there'd be a few interested.

I sent Tank the pictures last night. Hopefully he can post em here. My wife tried and she had problems. I'm too incompetent on computers for my own good.
I'm lucky to be here and know you great folks this way.
Truly a blessing.
