i use to have a cousin that would find subliminal mesages in packaging designs.  for example camel cigarettes use to have a man standing with his little "larry" sticking straight out drawn in the design of the camel.  i wonder what's drawn in that indians head dress?? Roll Eyes

Went from 3 1/2 packs per day to none - Cold Turkey in November 1987! cooldude

My motivation at the time was my son. He was going through the "Dare" program. When I reminded him to "Just say no", when anyone offered him any kind of drugs, the little smart aleck said, "Hey Dad! If it's so easy, those cigarettes you are smoking are a drug, so why don't you just say "NO" to them?" Shocked  Embarrassed

What was a "do what I do" type of Dad to do? I took my pack out of my shirt pocket, crumpled them up, and have not had a cigarette since then! angel

All you need is the right motivation. cooldude Wink

I was smoking three packs a day and decided I had to quit or die of emphysema, like my Dad had.

I went and got myself hypnotized in a one-on-one session (took 'bout an hour), and on my way home, I threw my cigarettes and lighter out the car window. Haven't touched one since and that was 1990. I've never missed them. You can do it, too!

Maybe you can try the Camel snus to help kick the habit. Should give you some nicotine without putting the stuff in your lungs. Its not alot of nic but its some. I use a tin a month or so. I like it and its not addicting, to me at least. Mostly use it on the bike cause the nic buzz makes me a little wozzie and dizzy.  crazy2

That stuff is most definitely addictive. One of my grandsons decided it was cool to start "tappin' the tin" as he put it, much more cool than smoking(his words). He found out rather quickly the side effects....his girlfriend would no longer kiss him, nor would she allow any container in or around the house. I warned him of the increased possibility of cancer in the area of the mouth, but he just joked about it. About 15 months later, he had a lesion removed from his tongue....was an eye opener for him. As a result, he hasn't had any of it since...roughly four years now. After the little episode having the lesion removed(was referred to as precancer cells), he was talking to me about it and broke down in tears....apologizing to grandpa for not listening was difficult.

As for smoking...I walked away from it cold turkey about 45 yrs. ago after having smoked 1 1/2-2 packs a day for years. Never missed it, and that was back when you could buy a carton of Pall Mall at the PX for about $2.

I used the skoal pouches in the late 90's during my rodeo days. When I was done rodeo'ing, I was done with skoal. I would occasionally buy some in the spring to use at work when we would work outside. End up throwing most away. That stopped for about 5 yrs till Camel came out. It was never addicting to me I guess.  The Camel I do the same, mostly on the bike or if I have been up for 22hrs with no sleep and need a little kick for 2 more hours of work.
To me dealing with a lip/ tongue problem for out ways lung problems. Lung CA, COPD, Emphysema, etc are what we deal with everyday. One of my pet peeves is picking up a lady who is on home O2, still smoking, calls for difficulty breathing. WTF?  crazy2
Either way its all bad in the end.
