and sadly, there will a bunch of dumba$$ try that without all the training and practice he's has put into it.
and............well, you know the rest.
Yeah. But at one time he had to be one of those dumba$$s too. You can bet he only achieved that level of skill after many crashes and injuries. I'd bet his pain tolerance is nearly superhuman.
I'll never forget seeing the Indy mile many years ago. There was a high school age guy riding on the factory HD team. A tutor was traveling with the team so he could keep up with school and still compete. He had crashed bad a few races back. Even from the stands I could see his knee was hugely, grotesquely swollen, like a melon. They had moved his peg forward on that side because his knee wouldn't bend far enough for his foot to reach the peg otherwise. The pain he was in must have been incredible yet he wouldn't miss the race.
A normal man would have been mentally paralyzed thinking of how bad a 120mph crash would be with that giant knee hammering the track. But he raced as if he wasn't injured and was a top finisher but I don't remember if he won. How many top bike competitors have cut off a cast so they could race? Probably most of em. Same with the competitors in the extreme bicycle sports such as are seen in the X games.
The top guys (and girls) make it look easy cause they're not showing us the pain, crashes and injuries they went through to get there. We're not seeing their first miserable steps when they get out of bed in the morning and all their old injuries make themselves known.
Most of us mere mortals watch these guys and are amazed. But some of us will try to achieve what they have. Many will be maimed or killed but some will achieve that high level of skill that amazes us. Some that don't make it to that level are indeed idiots but many will die or be maimed merely because they had a spot of bad luck.
Who's to say who the real dummies are? Those who had the nads to reach for the sky and failed or those of us (like me) who were content to stand on the ground and look up at those who learned to fly.
