Figured I'd take the wife out for a last run of the season since she has never rode in Nov.  We put just a hair under 200m. on and only seen one deer this afternoon . The last leg was about 40m. on mostly freeway so we had put on snowpants and bundled up good to stay warm. About 2m. from home Comming down one of these circle off ramps in the dark  this damn buck had to have his a_ _  standing in the road. I was close enough to bellar at him an he started to take off, so i eased off on the brake a hair, he changed his mind spun around and was going to cross in front of us so I hit the brake hard, he turned hi neck as if he was going to take us on at just a couple feet away. an in that hair of a second I lost the balance of the bike he took off & we were down. When I lost the balance the bike laid flat on it's side. I was ok except for banged knees but I was pretty worried about my wife cause she had her right foot stuck some & I had to get her clear before some car hit us. a car came down the ramp right after I got her clear. The wife got her shoulder brused a bit and one hand. all in all we were lucky. As far as the ole girl well I guess I'll just have to wait till I get out of work tomarrow to see how she looks, A couple of people stopped right away an helped pick her up & I managed to fire her up & The 3 of us made it home.  I don't know, no time to count points 8-10 maybe. I know he was a big deer & that I've have a hell of a story if he would of stuck the bike.

was that at the 29/124 round-a-bout?  or the 178/S round-a-bout?  i hate deer, saddly i don't hunt, if i did, i would only do it like the indians spearfish wallies, kill 'em all, and leave 'em in the back of my truck to rott.

nitro was with me once when a deer jumped out infront of me in broad daylight, we were on a gravel road, thankfully i had enough space to hit the breaks and the horn!!  dogs are just as bad on some of these country roads.

that's a lousy way to end the season.  Sad

I'm glad that you and your wife weren't hurt seriously.

I've never hit a deer but we have plenty of forest rats here too.  I treat deer sightings exactly like squirrel sightings. Both squirrels and deer are  unpredictable. Deer, just like squirrels, will move out of danger on a road and then turn around and come back.

Unfortunately, you can squash squirrels all day long with no inconvenience but deer are slightly bigger but still dumb as far as moving vehicles are concerned.

Better to him 'em square on than to offer a glancing blow IMO.

There are a lot of Valkers who have hit deer and never went down.

Hurt the bike... but not THEM.  I'll take rubber on the road ANY time vs the alternative.  I know... that would have been VERY hard to do on a ramp... I was not trying to imply you erred.

Glad ya'll are OK.

Jeez, Greg, I just talked to you last night and then this happens! Glad to hear you're okay. The bike will be fine in no time, too, I'm sure.

I saw a deer on 29 today while I was doing 70 in the dark on my way to work. Luckily it turned the other way, but still scared the hell out of me.

There are many people seriously hurt or killed each year from hitting deer with their cycles-- I will do most anything I can to avoid them... including going hunting each year!

here's an update, we're fine, minor brusis. The bike got some gougeing in the flairing & a few scratches in the saddle bag some some took some scratches but all in all things are pretty good nothin busted.  Alph , this wasn't in a round a bout --It was 53 north across the chippewa river onto the circluar off ramp down on to old 29 or now x.   This makes #4 near misses under approx 5ft. with the bike, and 1 take down (the deer) with no injury to us nor a scratch on the bike.  So far I've killed 1/2 doz. deer in cars + one had to be shot + 2 lived.  most of all these were at night. Right now the bucks are runnin pretty good so ya gotta keep an eye peeled an 2 fingers on the brake.  I'll never forget once on a long night run on the bike an we seen well over 100 deer in the ditches in tall grass, I was prayin an they all were content to stay in the ditches.

I always think it’s funny when you kill an animal with your vehicle and the police ask if you want to keep it!  Now, unless I had a “mink farm”, or a pack of wolves at home……  what would I do with 150# of bruised deer meat??  maybe if you turn it all into summer sausage…..  police

It's not ALL bruised.

I'll claim a roadkill deer pretty often given the chance.  There is usually quite a bit of good meat on them.
