Does anyone have any idea what would cause the throttle to become stiff?

It is still smooth, doesn't seem to be binding on anything,  but takes more to effort to roll on and does not snap back when released..

Because of the stiffness my cruise control will not work as the vacuum is not enough to turn the throttle.

I've sprayed with WD40, loosened the cables at the throttle and no change.

Thanks
Tom

hate to tell you this..but wd-40 is not a lubricant..it evaporates leaving nothing..try a good sylicone spray down into the cables..

Dude.... is this a trick question???  2funny

Anna Kournikova always made my throttle stiff.

All seriousness aside, while it could be a cable issue, my first guess would be that the grip glue on your throttle grip has deteriorated, and is perhaps binding on the control housing above it.  You didn't say if you had Kuryakyn Iso grips; I do, and recently my throttle grip got a little sticky on the throttle sleeve from old built up RTV silicone I use for glue.   It's easy enough to pull the grip, clean it and the throttle sleeve and reglue it.

You can lift the top part of the throttle housing on the handlebars and oil the cables letting it run down the inner cable.

Seems to get sticky in the area of the bend of the metal elbows coming right out below the housing.

I do have ISO grips and No that is not your throttle... Grin
I am going to try to lube it with some proper lube today top and bottom.  (again not the throttle you ar thinking of but the one on my bike) Roll Eyes
