There was no 1996 Valkyrie.  It started as a model year 1997.  I bought my 1997 new in August 1996.
i know of no 'pre production' 1997's.

Others may know more than i do.

They started the production of the -97 tourer in July -96
First month of ’98 Tourer production was August -97

The National release date for the first Valkyries (Standards) was May 25th 1996

Looks like #3 off the line!

Only thing that he has wrong is the "preproduction" part.

Does anyone know of bike #1 or #2?

If so, this is the earliest known Valk.

Wasn't #1 a yellow and black made for and ridden off the line by some cycle guy? I remember reading this somewhere...
